The third generation celica with the 22R enginge was mounted longitudaly. Would a swap be possible with a JDM 3SGE motor? How much trouble would it be to mount it. I assume the existing motor mounts would not line up. what about the transmission? Would the original tranny work?

Think on this your best bet would be to sourse the gearbox from an Altezza and the sump as these are the main things you will need for this.
Are you thinking of the Blacktop BEAMS? You would need everything from the Altezza. The 22R had no electronics, no FI, nothing. The Blacktop does, so you've got quite a bit of work set out for you. But people can and have done the swap. You could probably find some information for it on Celicatech.
