I don't do burnouts. They're against my religion.

And I'll set you a place at the table in OT. We hope you will join us for tea and crumpets.

I still don't think this is settled...I'm 100% sure the pass side should spin on occassion...Otherwise I'll just have a bald driver side tire.
I thought I'd add to the tomfoolery with a simple statement.

when your going straight. both wheels have the same amount of torque applied which means both wheels are locked in the cage. when youre turning the pinions in the cage start to turn. the inside tire spins slower while the outside spins faster. You make a right turn, the left tire will rotate more due to it having a further distance to travel and the right side less do to the shorter travel distance. either wheel will spin when the other has exceeded the threshold of traction available, it all depends on the conditions, such as how heavy the vehicle is, how much drag, how much friction there is, gradient of the road, the vehicle's momentum , weather and what ever else. your diff seems to be working fine

When I have the wheels straight I still only get power to the drivers side.
Tomorrow I will make a sharp turn to the left and make it spin. You're telling me that if I do this the pass tire will spin, correct?
So..ill be the one to ask..Is your driver side tire bald? Are both your front tires the same brand, size and tread? Are you on stock suspension?

when you have the wheels straight and are doing burnouts the driverside wheel will spin and the passenger side wont. when your driving normal they will both spin and be distributed the same amount of torque. If your driving normal and straight and one wheel seems to feel like it has more traction than the other, it could possibly be a wheel bearing

thats not a hard rule tho.

i have vids of my car, when i had the 5sfte, leaving an "LSD" style burnout iwth the S54..i've been in others where it never happens.

alot of diffrent factors come into play, fluid, wear, suspension, tires, all play a part.

This may be the reason your driver side wheel spins while the other one doesnt.

Well I personally like turtles, but we'll agree to disagree tharr friend.

OP, I'm interested in hearing what your suspension setup is as well, this is a curious mystery. Maybe the snow is throwing another element of less traction in, but then again you could say that lack of traction is lack of traction...who knows.

To answer the legit questions, the car is completely stock suspension, stock GT wheels with 205/55/15 BFGs, tires are basically brand new.

I'm just trying to figure out if something is wrong or not. With all my of previous vehicles with open diffs, the tire with the least traction will always spin, no matter whether it's DS or PS. It just does not make sense to me that only one side gets power all the time.
It was my passenger side tire was the one with all the power in my old Celica, except when traction was an issue or when I turned. My open diff acted exactly as you are saying it should. My passenger side tire would always go bald quicker than my driver's side because it pulled more often than the driver's side. The power always took the path of least resistance. I don't necessarily think that it's something wrong with your car if all the power is going to the driver's side wheel, but your passenger side wheel should pull from time to time.

what could have happened: your diff locked up and broke the pinion gears, and lodging into the DS, causing the PS to spin freely.

way to check: leave car in park(auto) or in 1st(manual) jack the passenger side ONLY off the ground and try to spin it. it shouldn't spin. now jack both front tires off the ground, spin either one, and the opposite tire should spin in the opposite direction.

God made man....Everything else...Made in China
Just jack the front of the car up (use jack stands). Put the car in drive.... one wheel will spin. Get some gloves and slow the rotation down, see if the other wheel starts to spin.

If it does you dont have a problem. If you stop that wheel and the other wheel isn't spinng somethings wrong, but i'm willing to bet its fine.

I'm gonna say screw it and drive it. I'm not investing much at all in to this car. I want to get another Jeep after this semester. This car is embarrassing.

I need to get back in a Jeep. I'm 6'2, big, and this car is just not for me at all. It's old, ugly, tiny and crappy. If it was a hatch I'd like it more...

this car is embarrassing?

dude do you realize what site your on?
he doesn't care about the car and that's ok.
Not everyone cares about their Celica like most of the people on this site.

His car most likely is a piece of crap and is embarrassing, let him junk it, who really cares.
I'm happy he's getting something that will make him happy and there will be one less knucklehead here.

RANT TIME! mad.gif

If the car is so fukcin embarrassing then why the hell are you on this site? You do realize this site if full of hardcore enthusiests. take the god damn time and search the site and read the stories of what people poured there hard earned cash and blood sweat and tears into this "embarrasing" car. you will find some AMAZING cars on here. some noob joins a site for enthusiasts and people who love their car or like it in someway and insults the car that they love and put such work in? You have some nerve buddy. if you took the time to listen to WHAT THE FUKC everyone has been telling you, you would be in fine shape. this thread was answered to the extent that you dont need to worry about sh!t. and if you are so worried then take it to a shop. you unbelievable man. Im 6 foot 3 and fit fine in my celicas so i dont know what your bitchin about. do us all a favor and sellt he car to someone who will love it and take care of it, and who actually has a brain because obviously you dont. listen to what people are telling you. we are tryin to help but your being a prick about it.
