i need a block for my 04 gt. i wanna buy one from a 98 or newer. how do i know im im getting the right block. for example is there a serial number to look for.

another example,

im sure you guys have heard of hondas h22 engine

92-96 h22 engine in the U.S. in numbered h22a1
97-01 h22 engine in the U.S. in numbered h22a4

i plan boosting my 5sfe, thats why im looking for the 98+ block

i found one from a local shop but all they can tell me is that its from a 97-01 camry.......
Im guessing you saying 04 is a typo? And you mean 94?

There should be a VIN # on the block of the engine that you can run to see where it came out of it. If you plan to boost id recommend you to at least rebuild the entire engine to OEM spec.

Edit:Misread the OPs post

Incorrect.

You can slap a 98 block in your 94. You need to use all of the accessories from your current motor though. Still OBDI. No problem.

Well if you're just replacing the block and nothing else, you shouldn't have to worry about all that OBII and OBI crap. That's only if you're replacing the head, intake manifold and other stuff. The blocks should just straight up swap in and out. Make sure to redo all the gaskets and seals while you at it! biggrin.gif
thanks guys, my gt is a 94. were can i find the vin # on the engine? and where do use the vin to check what year the block came from. and yes im only swapping the block and i will rebuild to spec.
