Which exhaust system is better?? - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #77615 17 posts Started by injection
Too all you fellow 6th geners out there, my question is:
Will I get maximum performance out of my exhaust system by doing a free flow 3" straight back with the silencer in the tip, to add a little bit of back pressure.
OR
Will I get maximum performance out of my exhaust system by doing a free flow 3" straight back with a resonater bottle for a little bit of back pressure, with no silencer in the tip. rolleyes.gif
So I guess what im trying to ask is which one would be more st205 friendly on motor as well as performance, or are both relativly same, thanx for all you guys input.. smile.gif
Anything with turbo, go 3" at the HP range the st205 will put out. Theres no need for back pressure on a turbo engine. Thats NA talk. A resonator will keep it nice and tone while the choice of muffler will affect the sound it will put out. Most of the guys on here including myself have gone with magnaflow mufflers. If I could go back to my old build I would have added a resonator to keep it just a bit quieter.

Thank-you bccentaur3, looks like im going with 3" straight pipe with resonator midpipe....no silencer wink.gif
If you can't drop a tennis ball into the downpipe and have it roll out the muffler tip then you're doing something wrong. tongue.gif

then i clearly must be doing something wrong...
has there been anyone using 2.5" inlet for exhaust for turbo...of course, the only down side is no true power from the swap.

Clearly.

Mainly because you're new and I have no idea who you are.

Edit: you don't have a 3sgte swap, so how on earth would you have a downpipe to roll a ball down?

Jumping in here...How much difference will the silencer on the muffler tip make?
About 50 decibels?

Or are you asking about power? Because a power rating would be impossible to know.

Guys Guys.... I know, im going 3" regardless for my 3sgte setup, question is: silencer for some back pressure, or resonator bottle for back pressure. to much flow can hurt instead of perform, so silencer cuts flow @ tip, utilizing the muffler cannon for exhaust to pool up before it expells ( tuned muff ), or, do I leave silencer off, and just put a midpipe resonator in for some back pressure, and have exhaust expell fully, not utilizing the cannon, and blow right out.
neither for backpressure, you dont want backpressure on a turbo engine.
a resonator will mellow and soften the tone of the exhaust, a silencer will lower the sound.

I just put an Ebay 35$ n1 knockoff and is adjustable sounds great, no resonator but I do feel it holding my car back, next I'm going to put in the Electric exhaust cutout I got from Raceland, should be fun going from quiet to hell raiser. Need to do a decat but overall pretty damn nice sounding.

What I think when you think I care
Resonators...highly recommended

Silencers are however REMOVABLE. Really while driving on the street it is not going to cut your power enough that its going to kill you driving around town or down the highway.
Have a silencer in for daily duty, remove it for weekend fun......use a resonator regardless

Neon90424, if you still feel your car holding back, definetly do the de-cat and uncork that puppy, the muff I bought for mine is a Megan paid 109.00 think it will sound good 2.
i went from 3" catback to 3" turbo back. car pulls harder on boost, especially around 1 bar its alot more powerful than it ever was. no extra lag either.

if the car feels like theres a delay between positive boost and power then u might need to check ur ignition timing.

I drove the car to a local muffler guy, (I swear you guys would laugh my Grandpa laughed when he saw my 3vz on a tree stump to keep it off the ground) basically just 2 wooden ramps and metal keepin the car up. And it felt fine on acceleration. Got the muffler on and adjusted it smile.gif real nice tool it was about perfect the sound I was looking for deep and throaty since driving no res no muffler really gets ya sometimes. I drove off and accel and noticed a lack of accel lol! also I noticeed my car boost gauge going to near top when my manual boost gauge showin only 5 or 6 psi XD(boost leak anywhere?) Later in town went to buy a phone card and floored it and popped the clutch felt like nasa just gave me permission to take off. my butt dyno was probably off.
