strut tower brace help - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #7763 14 posts Started by aznpnoy12
well i got my gt srtut brace in a few days ago, and i finally got a chance to install it today. the only problem is that it wont fit. am i doing something wrong? i thought you just take off the bolts from the strut, then place the brace over it, then put the bolts back on and put some bolts to connect it to the firewall. when i tried installing it, it was only able to fit to one of the struts. it seems like the brace is to long or something. because when i try to install the brace to the other strut there isnt enough slack because the bar keeps on hitting the firewall. any help would be appretiated. thanx u guys.
what kind of brace is it? is it adjustable anywhere?

MISS THE CELI, BUT...
its the three point brace that came off the celica gt. its not adjustable anywhere, its just a solid bar.
thats probably your problem. You have a GT brace for an ST.
aren't they the same body. i am sure that you can use the gt brace on an st somebody here has one i just cant remember who.
i am getting mine in from toyota this week. so ill let you know how my install goes.

zipstrips is the guy you want to talk to. he has one on his ST.

that is very odd.....I am clueless,I thought the body's were the same
yah i thought the bodies were the same also. i really dont kno what to do. well my car has been in an accident before, but i really dont think that would have anything to do about it because it was nowhere near the struts. this really whomps...
where it the car when your trying to install? an how much is it off?

It should fit without a problem. The only reason it wouldn't fit is if the strut tower has shifted.

When I installed my 3 point bar from Jspeed I had a hell of a time making it fit. Upon further inspection I noticed that the weld on the drivers side strut tower was cracking(too much high G cornering/rallycross). After forcing it to fit I took it to a friend with a welder and had him reweld it(even though it is still a hair off, it is now structurally sound).

Any time you are in an accident it puts a strain on the whole car. Just because you didn't get hit in the front, doesn't mean it didn't bend something connected to the strut tower.
hmm... well that kinda makes a lot of sense. that kinda sux though cuz i dont really have any friends that would have a welder. maybe i can find some way to get this to work. thanx a lot u guys >smile.gif>
well i installed my front and rear braces today. they bowth fit without any problems.

for the front, you want to make sure that you are not installing it the wrong way. one side of the bar is longer then the other. the longer part goes on the drivers side of the car.

thanx for all te help u guys. i was trying to figure out why the strut brace wouldnt fit, and upon further inspection i noticed that the strut on the driver side had different welds on it then compared to the welds on the passenger side. my car is salvaged so im not reallu surprised that this happened. my guess is that the previous owner got in an accident that involved the driverside of the car smashing into somehthing. and the person who had fixed the car didnt really allign the everything as well as the factory does it. o well, thanx again u guys >smile.gif>
