Shift Light - 6G Celicas Forums

Just wanted to know what everyone thought about this idea and if it had ever been done. I have blue bulbs in there now and want them to flash at a set RPM or flash between two different colors like red and blue. Any thoughts? I think it'd be pretty cool cause I've never seen it done before.

So... I guess this is a bad idea.

Well, the gauge cluster could me made to flash, by splicing into your harness(es) and using a couple SPDT relays. You'd also need something to sent +12 volts to a relay once the specific voltage has been reached on your RPM signal wire, so you'd probably need to take apart a shift light or something for this, but I'm not sure.

It's gonna be very difficult, and flashing between two colors would be even more difficult.

New Toyota project coming soon...
yeah I can figure out the wiring, just wondering if anyone thought it'd be a good idea or if anyone had done it before. Thanks for the input.

sounds really cool to the is it a good idea, However doesnt seem as if it would be as affective as a single light turning on
I'll probably be doing something similar(probably a blinking LED placed in my field of view) once I get a better job and have more money to spend on the car again. I already have an Apexi Rev/Speed Meter, which has 2 aux outputs for specified RPM or speed engagement. I just need to find a good spot to mount the RSM now that I've switched radios. It used to sit in place using the radio to wedge it in place, but now I can't do that so I have to make a mount somewhere.
Let us know how it turns out.
doGGy has just a shift light in his car...i dont know how its wired or anything, but i thought this might be of interest to you guys. Im wondering how you would set something like that to light up at the correct RPMS without the whole extra tach. >confused.gif>

EDIT- nevermind, i thought doGGy took a shift light off an aftermarket tach, but upon some additional research on my own i realized that they sell just shift lights. >wink.gif>

if you have every driven a car with a good shift light you notice it.. doesnt really matter where you put it as long as its somewhere in your field of vision.. expessially at night >wink.gif>

I though about putting my shiftlight into the side airvent the left of the steering wheel where there is that little round indentation.. but not I am thinkin about makin a fiberglass piece to put guages in there.

99 project version 3.0.. hello SEMA 2010 =)
That's just it most of my cars have been auto except for the turbocoupe I have now and the 3 speed 67 chevy my dad taught me to drive in. I say go for the idea with the guages.
