Power window is having trouble going up - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #77863 18 posts Started by HectortheRican
Today when I went to make my window go up, about halfway, it stopped. So I took it back down a bit and brought it back up and I could hear the gears inside slipping and slowly but surely, my window made it back up. Would this be that the gears are loose? Or is the motor going bad? It's the driver side window, if that's relevant.

Do you hear any type of grinding noise?
sorry to thread jack but my windows suck too, If I put them up at the same time you could time them with a calendar...

What I think when you think I care
most of the time it is just a worn out motor, but it is worth opening up the door and removing the motor and bench testing it. That will eliminate things like wiring, relays, battery/alt issues. Then make sure everything inside the door is lubed up nicely, sometimes the tracks and runner dry out if you have a faulty window seal or something

I had the same problem before. Window would get stuck going up and down in certain spots. The problem was caused by a fray in the regulator cable. I replaced the whole motor/regulator with one I found in a junk yard and it solved the problem.

See, there ya go, pop the door panel and actuate the window while looking at the cable. If its birdcaged or you have a strand broke, you know what your problem is off the bat.
my regulator is still bad too... been trying to get around to fixing it but im giving it a bit more time since its not quite warm out yet!
This is why i love manual windows and locks lol, hopefully you get this fixed hector

Does this only happen when its cold outside? If so, my passenger side window does the same thing. It will move terribly slow, sometimes it stops, and then it takes a few minutes before it will move again.

I'm wondering if something like grease is freezing???????

Maybe... I haven't tried it again since Saturday because I'm a bit worried that I won't be able to force it up next time LOL

That would be a good explanation though because I NEVER noticed any hesitating from the driver's side window, it was perfect. And then one day it was all THHHPPPPT. And it has been unusually cold here lately... so I'll check again.

I haven't had time to check anything in the door panel, but I tested it today because the weather has been getting warmer and it went up and down, but around halfway up, there's a slight grinding sound. But it actually goes up and down again lol

The cable is probably fraying and it will work for prob another 3-6 months but after that it will lock up and the cable will be about done. Thats what happened with mine, I'm finally just about to replace it in time for spring!
Damn.. well I'm going to have to make time soon and scope out the situation.
