After market engine management - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #77975 13 posts Started by Geddes
Hey guys, I've been looking into different options for engine management on my gt4 and was wondering what everyone else that had an after market set up was running on their 3rd gen 3sgte, and what their opinion of it is so far.

Been looking into a few different options.. including the apexi PowerFC, as well as a one shot deal like what Mine's offers. Anyone here have any personal experience with either of these? or any other suggestions that they have personally had good luck with? I'm liking the idea of the Mine's set up as there is no AWD dyno anywhere near me so tuning a full stand alone ems will be a bit of a pain in the ass on the street, unless I can find a good base map somewhere for it..
mines is usually for the mr2 set up and if you want to make it for the st205, i remember reading you would have to repin some wires...ill go search for it...there's also a blitz....and sard, but good luck finding those.

Yeah the Mine's one won't run the intercooler pump on the st205.. which is no big deal I would just wire it to run all the time.. the other thing about the Mine's one is its tuned for Japanese supreme.. but If I went this route I would get a meth injection kit to help with the octane issue
see if you can find a c-one ecu....they come tune just right for the st205; sad thing, another rare gem.
ST205 3S-GTE LINK ECU (plug and play)

>Free yourself from the constraints of the factory ECU. Link's G4 Plug-Ins fit discretely inside the original enclosure. Installation is a breeze, no alteration of the factory wiring loom required. An XS connector provides additional inputs and outputs such as oil pressure inputs or anti-lag / logging switches (the number available depends on the application)

(I think I'll do a sticky on all the ecus available)

stick with the Power FC, its a 100% plug and play for the ST205. the PFC is a very powerful ECU. im using one on my 7th gen celica thats making over 550HP.

I would just say that I believe Haltech EMS' are the way to go and so far I have seen crazy gains on local toyota tuners but then again you have to find someone that'll wire it and tune it if you're not as fortunate as me. Out of my old setup I got 300whp at 12 psi maybe peaking at 13 psi. Ive seen tem tune 2jz motors past the 1000 mark and I trust those ems'. just my 2 cents.....
Haltechs are also crazy expensive

Yup they are, I was looking at that route at first but for the price it is a tad bit overkill for what I'm doing.. same as the power FC, nice but very expensive..

That linkecu looks interesting, going to to a bit of research into that in the very near future..

Thanks for the input so far guys!
The Haltech Platinum Sport 1000 is available in a direct plug-in harness for various 3SGTEs including the ST205. smile.gif
AEM is probably what I'll be running, but mainly because the shop near by has certified AEM tuners.
i just finished rebuilding my patch harness so i can use a 3S-GTE AEM EMS on my 5S-FTE setup. once the rain and snow im getting in So Cal (again) stops, ill plug it in and see if it runs the car. Oh ill also use the 3S-GTE MAP sensor for now.

oh the AEM is not set up for the 3rd gen 3S-GTE, that doesnt mean you cant use it, but you will have to make some pin changes. if you are going to spend the money on the AEM, get the PFC. its P&P and there are a ton of MAPs out there that will get you going and then you can do a final tune on a dyno
