Demand for 7A-FE headers - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #78010 23 posts Started by Smaay
ok so if i were to get a lot of the carolla headers and modify them so you can plug and play them to an ST, how many would be interested? price will be higher than ebay of course, ill have to buy it, modify it then ship it back out. so the total cost might be around 200 shipped????

Im guessing your talking tubular? And after you weld on the new flange are you gonna rechrome?
Seems a little pricey... I got mine for $84 and it'll cost me like $30 at a shop to extend it... Maybe more around $150? I already have mine, I'm just saying for other guys.

Rethought: Ehhh... maybe a little more. Just $200 seems a little pricey for a cheap eBay header to be modified. Of course, I'm thinking about shipping costs and profit for you.

hey, i dont know if they are crap or not, i had one on my GT for a year and then gave it to my friend, he is still running it strong. i dont know what the 7A-FE header quality is. i just see lots of interest in them and was trying to do something for the community.

come on dude...its an 80$ header.
you think its NOT crap?
i'd be willing to bet a properly designed and produced header for either gt/st would perform alot better than these shiney noise makers all the kids buy.
thing is none of these same kids would pay for a properly designed header.
lol

I would if I had a better engine frown.gif lol, no point in wasting money on a well designed header for a 7A tongue.gif

I have a "crap" header. Its been through 2 other owners, and i haven't had any problems. All the welds are are perfect, ive never had a problem.

im not talking about the pot metal steal, or the fact they pay the people who make the welds a few cents an hr and a bag of rice a week (although thats part of it)
im talking about the crap design of the whole thing, AND the other stuff.

its a header. its 4 tubes welded to a flat surface.
i mean seriously...its not about how long it will last before cracking..thats basic stuff that anyone who can weld will attest to.

you couldnt even buy a quality flange to build a proper header for the cost of the chicom stuff.

the typical 'ebay' 7A header is pretty much a clone of a factory 20v 4A-GE manifold with longer primaries and a different flange. The design isn't bad, really picks things up over 2500-3000 RPM.

I like the idea but $200 is a bit much and I'm going to weld my own when I get them so I wouldn't be a potential customer =(

What are you comparing these to? I mean obviously this header would be "crap" compared to a custom performance made header, but that's like comparing a Celica to a Ferrari. Is a celica crap? No, but when compared to a Ferrari it is. Compared to a stock header i think jeffs custom ebay header would be a definite upgrade.

Also what other option is there, I mean if someone is going to get a after market header their not going to go all out and make thier own they will most likely get these ones, so these are just about as good as your going to get without having to spend a but load

I remember a few years back when someone did make their own set of equal length long tube.....the results were less than spectacular. They looked good but...from what I can remember performance was not upto par.

Not all the "kids" on the site have money to buy top parts for their economic 6gc or go through a 5sfte set-up then switch to 3sgte and be able to have resources left over. The part may be low quality but those who are buying them seem to like them for the money and options available. Personally, I give smaay credit for wanting to customize and offer turbo kits/ headers/ awd set-ups and more for this 6gc community at reasonable prices.

I suggest you watch your tone. Manny and Jenn have worked there ASSES off to get where they are today with the car.
Wow, is it heating up in here or is it just me?

Lets keep it constuctive people...

Smaay, if you have the facilities and the abilities to modify the eBay header why don't you try to make your own header from scratch? Depending on the interest it could come out cheaper. I have a couple of places that will laser cut parts like flanges. They have a resonable setup fee and then charge by the length and depth of the cut. Just draw it in the computer, email it to them and they spit them out. Next you get a box of bends, build a jig to hold them, and weld away. I don't mean to come across sounding like "Oh yea, it's easy". It's going to take a bunch of R&D to get it right. Maybe get a bunch of flanges cut then do your homework to get the tube lengths right.
the cost of materials and time to fab up headers is not worth it. it take 8 hours to build my turbo manifolds. and they have short runners

^^ exactly...same reason i wont make exahusts...noone wants to pay for the time it takes.

and tim, my wife and i worked hard, long hrs to pay for the stuff thats built our car, and its taken years to get where it is.
that dont happen overnight.

personally, if i was buying a header for my car id probably go ebay, just saying. even if i have to go to a shop to get the extension.
I know I'm the new guy... maybe still the newest... but many Toyota people know me by reputation.

There actually is/was a factory tube header like the 20V one, BUT for the "F" engine series.

It was/is available for the European and Japanese model of the 110 series Corolla (1997-1999) The 110 series Corolla got the ZZ engine here in the USA

Toyota part number - 17141-16320 - £150(about $260)

I'm in the process of finishing porting a 4AFE head (2nd gen)** and I was looking for a better exhaust solution then the oem cast one.....

so I've purchased one of the ebaY units

Oh... this is all for my AE95 All-Trac Corolla sedan biggrin.gif
