Does anyone know if I would have to change my registration for my car if I painted it a different color, but left some parts of the car the color that is on the registration?
I.E. - Say you have a black car, and you're thinking about painting it, uhhhhh, white. If you left the hood, mirrors, roof, and spoiler black (lip kit black as well), would I have to change the registration from black to white or could I keep it as a black car since I still have alot of black on it?

just keep it as black

you need to change your reg if the primary color of the car changes.
eg. If the new car has more white than black panels.

There may also be a designation for dual colors where you would specify primary and secondary but I'm not sure for your location if that option is available.

Your supposed to do it, i got pulled over when i first painted because he ran my plates and it came up a red celica i guess. But luckly I had changed the reg. but i guess the paper work didnt go all through at that point.
But its only a little form, and i think i got charged maybe 20-30? but i cant really remember. I know your technically supposed to change it in NY, so do it and save your self a a bull**** ticket in the long run

well this is my take. F**K the police! im not gonna pay some stupid registration fee for painting the car. if a cop makes a huge deal out of it, they can just look at the VIN in the dash or door jam. its my car i can do whatever i want.

When you go to renew the car's registration you're going to pay a fee anyways... NOMINAL fees by comparison of what you'll pay if you get pulled over in a white car and the officer sees that the registration says the car is black.

i'm thinking about going with the lexis electric blue and do the hood, roof, mirror, skirts, and spoiler black.
i'll call the rmv and see if it's a small fee or if i have to change the whole title and crap

I think you can get them to change it in the system and then just make a note on your papers to avoid a reprint....worth asking

trust me mike, just ammend your reg to reflect whatever color you paint it.
we didnt, and the cops gave my wife a ton of **** one time when she got pulled over.
