I looked everywhere, both in car audio and home audio sites/companies and have found what i believe to be the best set of 8\'s for the buck the will ACTUALLY fit with no modification. They are home theater speakers, so they are very efficient (50watts max rms, sensitivity 84dB @ 33hz) and can reach high enough to do well in a 2 OR 3 way setup. And its 4 ohm, which is a bit harder to find in home theater speakers. I went ahead and found what i think to be a good tweeter match too. I would put a HPF on the tweeter at around 4.5-5k if the included crossover gives too strong of a midrange.

The thing that usually gets in the way is the magnet, which is why i went with the neo woofer. I'm 100% sure this will fit. I'm actually not doing this as i have a great set of jbl power series components and 2 jbl powers series 10's. I did this for everyone who was asking about it in other forums

FYI, I am not sure if they are made anymore but I have a set of 8" 3-way Pioneer speakers in my doors and they fit just fine. I had to widen the plastic holder a bit but all the holes lined up for mounting. They sound great and it sounds like I have subs in the doors (need better sound deadening though). If anyone wants, I will try to hunt down the model number for you. Oh, and they came direct from England via e-bay.

There are some 8" components out there such as Memphis MSync8 ($369) and Rockford Fosgate M282 ($399), and a lot of high-end brands such as the Hybrid Audio Legatia L841 3-way ($1,200). Haven't ever heard of Pioneer 8" componenets, kind of excited to search them up. I made this thread to find a more cost-effective setup that will still sound really good. You'd be hard pressed to find any component set let alone 8" components for less than $100. Hope you can find that model number though!

Did you buy, install and listen to these speakers in a Celica or just looked at specs?

I would be very skeptical of a no-brand low efficiency woofer paired with a good efficiency JBL tweeter with no crossover.

You'd be surprised what "No brands" can do Ive delt with parts express for my company and Dayton Audio which no one has heard of supposedly seems to blow away a lot of jl audio subs.. just try out one of their reference HF or HO series......seriesly crisp bass....

there have been a lot of people on here who really want some 8's in their doors, i simply found an inexpensive way to do it. There of course would be some equalization to do, and i can put a crossover design on here that would work pretty well but yes to answer your question i am just looking at the specs. They will play low and thats what most everyone was lookin for for the doors. To attenuate the tweeters all you need is a audio grade resistor, somewhere around 3-5 ohms. Are there better things out there? of course. for the price? probably not.

Forget the specs, you're not going to listen to a piece of paper. Go out to a store and listen to some speakers in your price range and see which ones you like.

I will be honest i didn't think to check marine products, thats an interesting find! hope the magnets will fit though... strontium magnets get pretty big and our doors are notorious for not wanting to accept 8's for that reason.

Forget the specs? That doesn't make sense. There is no shop in this world that will let you listen to a bunch of different speakers in your car before you buy them. Hearing them on a wall or in a "sound room" does absolutely no good either. The specs are an undeniably important part of buying your next speakers, provided you know what to look fort. Look at the Vas, Qts, Qes, and the Fs (which Parts Express gives you) to calculate what type of enclosure the speaker works best in and subsequently know whether it is optimized for sealed/ported and how large the air space needs to be. i go ahead and treat my door as IB (infinite baffle) and look for a speaker that does best in a 3+ cubic foot *sealed* enclosure.

The 8's i found work best in a 6.127 cubic foot sealed enclosure. thats infinite enough for me. Oh, and they are NOT inefficient. 84 dB at *33 Hz* is def on the better side of average for an 8" that can play theoretically up to 4k

On the specs thing, i work at a shop in Auburn and have been for about 5 years. I compete in MECA SQ (Modified class) and have had actual experience with parts express no name brand speakers on two occasions. So far they have done extremely well, allbeit with a bit more in depth crossovers than just allowing the midbass to roll off naturally and putting a simple 12dB/octave HPF on the tweeter (which is actually how almost all coax speakers are set up).

Have you heard both or even one these marine speakers in the celi? because it sounds like you're goin off specs too.

I've had a set of these for over 2 years now, love their sound, and yes it's a midbass, but if tune properly yields great notes, and honestly for a door application it doesn't get any better than that. before this one I had a slightly more powerfull woofer made by kicker and which was also optimized for sealed box applications, the rattle was unbareable, it sounded awful mainly because the door was falling apart with every song, even with the power level turn to the lowest the woofer was still too agressive for a door application.

they fit nicely, just need a mild trimming of the plastic bracket, no mod require for the door frame.

yes, but as i just posted the sealed enclosure they need is over 6 cubic feet. That is infinite baffle for an 8", you could install these in the ceiling in your house. Besides, if you take the parameters for any purposefully designed IB speaker, it will be optimized for a sealed enclosure. just a HUGE one. And with an Xmax of 7.5mm, i'm confident this will play 35hz with some strength. Just please invest in some energy absorbing mat : )

I'm pretty sure it'll hit the notes, hopefully the absorving mat eliminates the rattles on the door, there are plenty of small metal parts inside the door that will resonate the vibration, that's where most of the issue was, I do have absorbing mat installed but I'm sure you've done your research, so I'll pay atention to how you do it and maybe I can later improve my system base on your findings.

Yea rattles are a punk to get rid of in older cars. once you think you've got em all, you play a certain song with a certain note and you get a whole new one. took me 4 different occasions to get rid of all mine and i still have a random one every once in a while

I'd love to try these 8's and tweets and give yall certainty and an optimum crossover network, but I'm leavin for iraq in less than a month and just dont have the time to fool with a whole new setup. All i can do is give a fairly well educated guess. but hey, for $50 they're worth a try!

Not really. The page you posted says "SPL: 84 dB 1W/1m". Doesn't say at what frequency. Industry standard is 1kHz. Yes the eff is max at Fs, and maybe they do specify it at Fs, although they don't say so. And once you put it in he door the res freq will change.

BUT... even assuming all of those things, 84 dB MAX efficiency is VERY poor. The Pioneers are 92. That's a HUGE difference. I can confirm they're loud with the factory amp.

Well man i learned somethin new today, i always thought they were rated at their Fs. At any rate, I'll set em up in my car with some crossovers that'll do a bit better than whats on a set of coax's and let all yall know how it goes!
