Hey everyone,

Ive been hearing this rattle coming from my 3SGTE. it starts about 10 PSI, and I think the Boost isn't going past 10-ish PSI as well.


I Have a Blitz adjustable BoV on it just off of the intercooler. now my thought is, the Valve inside, is not able to stay closed at 10-ish PSI and starts to flutter open.

is this possible? is it easy to repair if so?

cant be the BOV. they are designed to close under any boost condition. so even at 2 lbs, its going to be closed.

Depends if the blitz is a push or a pull type. Some of them just have a spring that pushes against the boost, and if its set too soft, it can in fact leak boost.

There should be an soft/hard adjustment on the bov. You can try setting it to a harder setting.

Hrm, I think its a push... because when I rev the engine, after it idles down, I hear a 'click' from the bov. which i believe is the valve closing.

also the Turbo is rebuilt so I doubt that's the problem.

Tighten the adjuster on the BOV a little, see how you go.

Also, The wastegate spring happens to be 10psi, so perhaps your TVSV isnt working or not wired in at the back of the intake manifold.

i dont know of any push style BOV, everyone i have come across are a pull type that operate off of vacuume. under boost its pushed closed, but under idle there vacuume in the system so it can pull the BOV open. which is ok if its before the MAF (if you use one)

I think I might know what was causing the rattle.... as I was pulling out of the store, a big thump happened, and come too find out, the driver side mount and bracket separated from the transmission.... yay...

so while working on all the mounts and fixing them... I found out what My problem was.

blue lock tight is crap... I went around the engine and found several bolts and nuts very VERY lose, and some missing. My loss in boost and that rattle... probably due to the turbo literally just sitting in place... I was missing two lock nuts, and the other two were very lose.

so this weekend will be dedicated to finding and tightening every bolt and nut to spec again, and finishing up the mounts.

I don't like admitting to my car literally falling apart, but I want other so look and thing about their own cars and engines. I was lucky. I was just backing out of a parking lot. some one else could be going down the freeway boosting at 80MPH...

blue loctite is the shiz if you use it correctly.
either you didnt use enough, or used to much, or didnt at all...lol

I also use blue loctite and it works GREAT. something else prevent it from secure the bolts, but the important thing is that you found the issue before it cuase mroe damage.

get your bolts torque to spec and enjoy the car.

I think the problem is that you didn't tighten your bolts down enough. I almost never use locltite and never had a problem with anything coming loose.
Loctite is just an extra security measure in certain situations, but its not a replacement for properly torqued bolts.

I would admit the Turbo to manifold weren't to spec because I don't know how to spec with a wrench. out side of that, things I could use my torque wrench, I did. but seriously just glad I'm catching things now.

yea, kev, it happens to all of us.

i've had alot of things come loose from not tqing them right, or not using locktite, or a combo of both over the years.

its a good idea after a swap to check things over once a week or so for the first couple of months, just for that very reason.
