I just put a new axle in my car about 4 days ago. This is the driver side and it is on the 7afe. I noticed that the day after I did this the transmission is leaking where the axle goes into it. Now the little metal dust cover got bent when I pulled the old axle out. Could the leak be this bent dust cover because that does not seem like it could be. Or is it possible that I messed up the seal in the transmission when I shoved the new axle in there? Just wondering on some expertise here before I go tearing into the car again because that was a little bit of work pulling that axle and I want to know what it could be before I do this. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks

I doubt the bent dust cover can cause the leak. Its usually a good practive to replace the rubber seal and the snap ring when you put the axle back in. Atleast changing the seal should stop the leak.

Usually the seal gets damaged upon removal of the old cv halfshaft. If you bent the seal, then yeah, its leaking from that, which sucks. Because now you have to pull all that out again.

Ok now next question. What type of seal is this. Like am i going to need to press it in. Does it sit right there when you pull the axle out?

The seal is a round rubber seal. Mine had leaked so badly that my tranny was out of fluid. I have a manual by the way.
My old one was hard as a rock and it is supposed to be pliable.

Its called the "Output shaft seal" no more than $5 at your local parts store. The Dust shield is no use to you, just take it off.

dont take the dust shield off, it has a purpose.
its a "Dust shield" lol. it helps keep dirt and what not out of the seal, so that they dont start leaking as quickly from contamination.
