"Gauging interest": Berk Tech 3" midpipe - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #79039 19 posts Started by nammer
As some of you already know, we had a successful group buy for Berk Tech 3" downpipes a few months ago with 34 orders (Click to see that GB)

I'm working with Bryan at Berk Tech to see if there is enough interest for a 3" midpipe. Nothing is set in stone yet but the price on it will be in the ball park of $300-400 MSRP. If we have enough orders, I will turn this thread into a group buy thread but for now, put down your username if you would be interested in this if it came into production. I will double check how many order we will need for this to go through.

Ask relevant questions and I will get answers in a timely manner. Thanks!

how far back are they extending this midpipe ?

will it go to the OEM " cat " location ? if so, I'll be interested as long as is stainless steel and low 300's, for around 400, I can have one made to my specs locally in stainless steel by a great builder.

are they using a 3sgte " swapped " car to build the first one ?

and lastly, what will be the time frame from payment to delivery ? seeing how it took them a little more than expected with the downpipes for which htey already have the desing on hand, I wonder how a new desing and building from scratch will playt out in a time line for everyone.

i'm interested

Culpable has some good concerns.

yup, good questions indeed. I emailed them and will post answers when I get a reply. Can anybody post pictures of the underbody of USDM celicas? Just so we can get an idea of how different it is from ST205's?

Here's a front to back shot of the ST205:

and a back to front shot:

In addition, he will need our help to determine how different the underbodys of USDM and JDM are. Please post pics.

Manny, please move this thread elsewhere if you deem appropriate.

I have heard that st185's are different to st205's, but I would love one for an st185! I would also be curious if they could throw on a high-flow cat since I'm taking mine out with their downpipe tongue.gif.
I will definitely continue to check this thread out!
the only major diffence between ST205 and USDM swapped car ( at the midpipe level ) is the transfer case of the AWD trans is in the way, you can see in the picture you posted how the midpipe goes around the transfer case, USDM swapped cars don't have that issue, BUT, one designed for a GT4 will work on our cars as well, as it won't interfere with anything we have there.

I might be down for this but I must see pictures of it fitted first because the flexi bit is the most difficult part to make for the ST205 as you have such a tight space round the sub frame there is no room for mistakes.

People should be aware that they can get an entire 3" exhaust for About $400US - good fitment, not coated in any way. It's a Motoria product, sold by XS Power. It's not listed on their site at the moment, now that I go back and look, but I'm sure that just because they don't sell many. They can probably still get it. 3-400$ is a lot for just a midpipe. Hell, I'll shortly have the resources to just weld up the exhaust at home, not that I would expect it to look pretty.

Not hating on the gb, just being realistic.

my downpipe and midpipe was a custom 1 off job, took about 7 hours to complete kindasad.gif

does this guy use a production line or is he going to be spending all day pumping out 2 midpipes a day until he satisfies this order?

Its about £300 in the UK for a full 3" system but it's very loud.
One thing I want to know though is that with the xs ones, are the flexi section interchangeable and in separate in the same place as the stock system?

I just received my Berk down pipe and was "deeply" disappointed.
I sent them an email of complaint and doubt I'll be joining this GB if they don't improve.

Tara, your right that you may be able to get a custom job for that price or better. I just see this as an opportunity to have more available aftermarket parts for our 6gc community. More choices to choose from the better.

Ray, thats too bad that you were disappointed with the downpipe. I hope they will resolve the issue in a timely manner in your favor. Let me know if I can help facilitate this process if needed.

They will need an st205 to look under and seeing as they are very rare in the US, this might be a bit challenging since fitment needs to be precise in order for this to work. We'll just have to see how this all pans out.

Id be interested in this as long as the shipping to eastern canada doesnt work out to be more than the pipe itself tongue.gif
I've got a 94 205, so as others said, its a tight fit with little room for errors
in all honesty, the only way Berk will be able to make a midpipe that will fit ST205s is if someone drives to their shop so they have an ST205 in front of them to base the midpipe on, so either one of the very few ST205s in the US drives up to them or someone from Canada bites the bullet and drives to them.

BTW Nammer you are one of the closest Canadians and since you already have developed somewhat of a relationship with them, why not go to California for a little summer Vacation ? biggrin.gif
I'll do it. They can use my car to make a prototype. Only if I get a free midpipe out of the deal....I'll take a vacay to California

That might take a little planning and a lot of time...hmmm at this rate, it doesn't seem like the number of interested people is high enough to justify producing a new product from scratch...
