3sgte problem - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #7929 66 posts Started by thedevilmaycrie
Ok well i started playing with this. I checked the ECU pinout and looked over my wiring. The RSM is wired to the IGF would explain why it goes nuts when it gets close. So i took that out cuz maybe it was doing something and i hard wired it, didnt solder tho, and i started it and tried and nothing happened. Gave me the same codes and so i followed the wire back to the igniter. Now i dunno whats going on i have the stock GT ignitor cuz the plug for the 3sgte fits on it and I dunno if thats the problem. The wiring maybe different but for now im stuck.

I will be getting the AVCR, u like it?

Im sure you guy's thought of this, but i had a similar thing happen to my old car, it wasnt turno, but when i would hit certain rpms it would shut off, it could be your fuel shut off is set up wrong, like when a car is speed limited, its just a fuel shut off, or it could be in your comp...just a thought
Fuel generally will shut the car off so that the gas pedal wont operate, in this case, its similar to a rev limiter. I was flooring it yesterday and it just stays up there, but wont go over it. Its just weird that the both of us have that problem.

Yeah I am going apexi... I have the RSM and TT.

Ok someone on Celica.net answered some of my questions. 1 i have the wrong igniter, I have the ST204 igniter and i need the St185 igniter, this maybe the problem, but also that the pressure sensor is necessary to retard timing and add fuel, so that may also be the problem...

now i just need to fix it.

MyFlickrMyeBay_Perpetual Aperture_
any ideas on how to fix it? im a little new to turbos
Well first off. what igniter are u using on your swap?

I'm going to swap my igniter to an St185, its about $250 for it.
If that doesnt work im going to make sure the wiring on the pressure wire is ok, no shorts or breaks and then if that doesnt work im going to have to replace the pressure sensor.

Check ur engine codes, we may have different problems with similar effects.

If you have the same error codes as i do, we can narrow it down.

MyFlickrMyeBay_Perpetual Aperture_
tell me exactly how to check the codes i know about the paper clip but do i just turn it on after that? and what are the check engine codes for your problems?
if u've had ur battery disconnected rev ur car til the engine light comes on and then turn it off. Find the diagnostics box and put one end in the E1 and one in the TE1, the locations can be found in the top of the box. Once those are in place, turn ur car on, dont start it, and the engine light should begin to blink.

It'll blink a certain number of times, a short pause, and then blink again.
The first set of blinks represents the first number in the code, the second represents the last such as:
* = blinks
***......****... that would equal 34.
A longer pause will be between different sets of codes, and the longest will be when it repeats itself.

Now the only thing that you might have trouble with is deciphering the codes. I dont kno if the MR2 ECU codes are the same as the Celica ECU codes. The website I went to to match them up is HERE.
This website should be bookmarked to ALL ST185 owners as it is a very useful website.

Whoa whoa PM me or EMAIL Me (Supersprynt@rcn.com) and lemme know exactly what you did!!!

Did ur engine codes tell you it was something with that VSV or did u just guess?

bump?

MyFlickrMyeBay_Perpetual Aperture_
i read a web page telling me about it and its effects so i did it outta curiosity and boom i started reved had full rpm and hit the road running.... all i did was diconnect the two vacume lines that went into the vsv and connected them together using (haha) a pen i cut in half

Well I will be getting the EBC by Apexi sometime or another so this will have to be done anyways.

What did you take off exactly? Just the heat shield on the dp?

also, do u have that website where u read that.

Hey Bryan -

Before I embarrass the both of us here in the boards... whats goin on?

-Mikemjcoury@gmail.comTeam Reynolds StyleCelica BlogCelica WikiIt will take him a moment to realize that he's about to make a 180 degree turn at speed, but you will be ready for it. Brace for the g's, and fast heel-toe work.
You mean the problem? Its the one i was talkin to you about, sputtering at 4000rpm's, weird thing with my RSM...

MyFlickrMyeBay_Perpetual Aperture_
NO

ohhhhhh k

MyFlickrMyeBay_Perpetual Aperture_
Yeah so I disconnected my VSV, and it didnt do sh!t for me, still has the same problem.

MyFlickrMyeBay_Perpetual Aperture_
So it sounds like you guys were hitting the fuel cut. As soon as the ecu is sent a 4.4 volt signal, which is 12.8 lbs of boost, the fuel defense system is initialized. Bypassing the vsv never lets the computer see the voltage. What are your boost gauges reading? What state do you live in? Hey supersprynt, get on ebay and find some people sellling 3sgte motors and clips. EMail them, b/c they may have an ignitor for much cheaper than $250.
