1994 Celica GTS CD Deck Wiring help........ - 6G Celicas Forums

OK so i bought a 1994 Celica GTS 5spd and am replacing the aftermarket cd deck, there was a crappy sony one in there that wasnt wired properly so i took it out. I have a JVC USB Bluetooth deck to install. The car has no harness, i have to hard wire it. There are duplicate colored wires coming from the factory dash which is making the install difficult. I already checked out installdr but it doesnt help. Anyone have input on my situation?

Option 1:
  • replace existing 'hacked' harness with a new one ($26.15 from partznet.com before 6gc discount) Part Number: 86203-20200
  • buy metra 70-8112 audio integration harness ($10.37 from Amazon.com)
  • then simply wire up battery (constant 12V), ignition (switched 12V), remote amp, ground, antenna (optional), and RCA connectors to pre-outs on new aftermarket headunit.

Okay great, with option #1 does partznet.com deliver to CAN?
As you can see mine looks pretty trashed and would be a b*tch to assemble manually, i think im jus gona spend the 20$.. Also check my local auto scrap yards. The butt connectors you see in the below pics were already there unattached when i disassembled my dash.
With the old deck audio was coming out of the speakers but every time i pressed a button it would make a high pitched ear piercing sound so i took it apart and noticed the ugly mess..

the numbers next to the wires in the diagram refer to the pins on the connector. look again.
L = blue
B = black

and to answer your question, yes you would just wire the stereo to the integration harness and the integration harness to the radio harness which leads back to the stock amp.

these wires got hacked, shoulda got the adapters.

I found that factory harness for the amp at an auto wrecker today, also picked up the aftermarket one for the deck from futureshop with the rca's. I hooked everything up and the decks not turning on. Will i need to unplug the blue harness's below the amp ? Or do i keep the factory amp fully connected?

Try this, turn the car to Acc, then use a test light or multimeter to see if there's power coming in from the red and yellow wires.

If there's power,there's something wrong with the stereo.
If there's no power, the amp is fried.

I like to do it this way
1- Unhook the previous setup completely and start over
take a testing lamp(the one that cannot fry anything) and touch the toyota wiring(key is off), one will have power that is the memory or yellow on the stereo.
2- Turn key on now you will have an additional power that is the stereos red line.
3-You will have to bypass oem amp it is by the drivers right foot as you cannot pass through it. You will have to cut the wires to the speakers down there and extend the headunits speaker wires to reach. If you already have an amp the speakers should be connected stil.
i'd say the amp is toast. the amp easily fries if a live wire touches the casing which usually happens during stereo installs. so either go back to the junk yard and pull out the amp if it's still there, or buy an aftermarket amp although the harnesses you bought would be useless.

pulling out the amp is a bit tricky since you need to unhook the heater coolant valve on the firewall in the engine bay to pull out the climate control cluster, then remove the whole center console to gain access to the amp.

Okay its probably the amp then, i just tested the wires again and the red lights the light but the yellow doesnt, i tried on both harness's the hacked one and the one i bought from the wrecker. I have an appointment tomorrow at "Car tunes" Hopefully the guy there will be able to get the audio working. Thanks for your help
The installer at the shop wired a new ignition (yellow) wire to the head unit and it turned on. He tested the factory amp and said its fried and to get a new one or unplug the harness below the amp and connect to new harness i bought then manually wire the speakers to the new harness and vualla. Does this sound accurate? Is there anything i need to know before i go about doing this, tips etc.
take the amp out and throw it to the sea, it will make a good coral reef...

yes you can wire up the new stereo directly to the speakers, just remember you'll need to bypass both amps (there's an additional amplifier beneath the driver's seat). the wiring will be a little bit more of a mess. while there's nothing wrong with that method, i personally prefer a cleaner job and prefer having the original amplifiers working instead of hacking additional wires so i'd go with replacing the amp.

Okay looks like i'll have to find an amp then or wire manually.. Heres some updated pics i got the center console out and plugged in the other harness i thought i was gona need, but now if i replace the amp i will be using the first harness i got from the wrecker etc.
I got everything working now just have to put it all back together
