Painting my new front end

First time using my new best friend. This was SO MUCH faster than by hand. Took like 20 minutes!


No before, but here's the after.

sanding the fenders


As she sits now.
GREAT job, i wish i had the tools and confidence you got to do it, other wise i do it myself too.
thanks! tools have been piling up over the years, just need some experience now.

I have to do this at some point this summer too... thank you for the POST; I'll be sure to follow along and compare notes. wink.gif

Looks like you are getting on nicely...for some tips and ideas on how to blend the paint and show others what is involved, can I recommend looking for videos by a guy called JIMMO4LIFE on Youtube.

He has got some good videos on there with text subtitles to explain as he goes.

Thanks for the link! I've never done any blending, and I really just didn't want the front to be silver anymore. I know I'll have to blend some because it's definitely going to be noticeable.
OH!

I didn't know you were all in for a two-tone paint job. No, I just need to fit my C-One knock off, then sand down, & prime the rest of my car.

lookin good....atleast you have a decent base to paint on...mine i had/still have to finish removing this cheap ass paint that wouldnt come off easy unless i used a scraper/wire wheel on a drill...(hood both fenders and bumper was like this) im on the filling the deeper scratches the wire wheel left behind with spot putty and removing dents and stuff then onto primer and paint.....i wanna punch whoever painted this in the throat hole!

nice sander, i just hope you have something to do the curves and corners on the bumper, or else you'll be using a lot of elbow grease.. haha and i'll leave it at that. biggrin.gif looking forward to see the progress on this job.

i have a trick for that...

All sanded parts getting ready for first shot of primer


Fenders match after some plier/hammer work


Stopped at the auto body shop for some supplies. Body filler, base/thinner (1:1), clear/hardener (4:1), primer/thinner (1:1) I have two of most because of the leftovers I had from previous projects.


The ding and scratches from the sander. Note to self, never use such a super low grit (80) just to take off paint.


Poorly done job of ding fixing and sanding. I could still see after the first layer of primer.


Go away rain. I have to spray.


Rain went away so I sprayed. Just a couple coats for 320 grit sanding to see my imperfections.

I still have to fix/fill/sand some parts before another coat of primer then 600/800 grit sanding prior to base coat.
i did the same thing as you, the body guy whose painting mine told me to take the paint off with 80 than i did another sanding with 180 grit on the hood. Brought it all the way down to bare metal. The worst part was sanding the vents..... Big pita!

Looks like it is coming along tho!

Usually you should have an air regulator/air filter unit which helps collects moisture in the airline. Plus you could also get an inline moisture trap that fits at the end of your pipeline...just before your air tool to collect the last bit of moisture.

If you look at the picture of the spray gun hanging up in his booth...the green unit the last bit of moisture control.

Yeah you need an inline filter, this will take care of dirt and water coming through the lines which is horrible for you tools, not to mention it is most likely the reason your paint on your hood got messed up
