So I'm driving last night, and everything's fine. Then I hear something metallic clang on the concrete as I'm driving. Next time I brake at a stop light, My front left makes a HORRIBLE metal-on-metal screech. Never heard anything like it before. I pulled over, but it being almost 11pm, I couldn't see very well, but when I jacked the car and took the wheel off, I'm pretty certain I couldn't see the inner brake pad. The outer was for sure there.

Yeah, just fell off. I haven't looked at it in the daylight yet, I borrowed my uncle's car to get to work, but when I looked at it at 11pm with an LED light last night, I'm pretty certain that the inner pad on the driver side was M.I.A., and the metallic clang that I heard before just confirms it for me. I replaced my brakes in September. Rotors, pads, drums, and shoes. This shouldn't happen. I'm going to call the place I got them done at and see if there's some sort of warranty. Or just do it myself...

Perhaps the installer forgot the mounting clips? Though how the brakes would have enough room between the caliper and the rotor to fall out escapes me.

Yea most likely the mounting clips were installed wrong or wore out and fell off. Is the rotor ok??

I hope it's okay... And if the mounting clips were the case, wouldn't this have happened sooner? They've been completely fine since September.

i dont understand how it just fell out. our brake caliper covers the brake pad and the 2 14mm bolts hold that to the brake bracket and then there is 2 17 mm that hold the whole assembly to the hub???? im lost never heard of that before

Ive seen it happen many times before. On cheaper/ old brake pad the brake pad material separates from the metal backing. Leaving you with a brake pads material and brake pad backing thin enough to slip past the caliper bracket. That is why you should always buy high quality brake pads.

hopefully your rotors are salvage-able.

..........Or the installer didnt tighten the "A" caliper bolt and the caliper on braking swings upward like a child's swing set, this give the pad enough room to fly out. I've seen it done before, I've done it to myself.

Never updated. That's pretty much what happened, Jon. The caliper bolt fell off and dislodged the pad. $90 to fix -__-

how's your rotor? any damage?

My mech said it did cause a bit of damage, but nothing serious and I don't need to replace it any sooner than I would, so I'm just fine lol
