need a quick recommendation for a clutch kit in a 5s/3s swap - 6G Celicas Forums

Hey everyone,

sorry, but I'm in Japan atm so I dont know all the details, but my car is sitting at a mechanic's shop (who hasn't even really touched it) but is saying that the pressure plate is probably shot. its only been in the car for 6-7 months, and my dad said he heard the throwout bearing chatter then things started going out and he replaced the slave and master cylinders then the clutch wouldn't disengage at all. I think the throwout bearing came undone or something, which makes me wonder if there is a difference between throwout bearings in a 5S and 3S and I might have been sent the wrong one on mistake.

I got the kit from http://www.dxdracingclutches.com/ and I haven't heard anything from them yet, so I'm looking for alternatives for a clutch kit if the Pressure plate is actually shot.

but I really need to get this figured out ASAP, so if you have any thoughts or recommendations please let me know,

Kevin
i believe they are the same. but im not 100% sure. Southbend has excellent customer service. if you can call them talk to Andy in the imports dept. he can help you out. I have installed over 100 southbend clutches in celicas ranging from 5th gens to 7th gens. I have southbend clutches in every one of my cars. EVERY ONE! it might be an installation issue. its too bad i didnt install it.

title post says something about a 5s/3s swap... if you're doing a swap, i HIGHLY recommend the TM1-HDG6 clutch kit (everything you'll need clutch-wise) for the 3S-GTE. mine was like $515 or so if memory serves, (somewhere around $500), and i got it off horsepowerfreaks.com. works perfectly with a 9.4lb flywheel (fidanza) lol.

as for weather or not the throw outs are the same, idk... as for what it sounds like: did he bleed the hydraulics after replacing them? you're probably thinking now "if that's the case, then what about the chattering?" check your exhaust heat shields all the way down the car. i have 2 of these cars, and the "beater" rattles and chatters like nothing i've ever heard before, but that's because the heat shields are loose on mine.

well, hope i was able to help... i'm off to continue researching this damn code-54 fix for my 3S swapped car... had 6 hours of pure-sex after the swap was finished, before the turbo blew... since the rebuilt turbo, safe mode hasn't been enough to clean 'er out... frown.gif
