How do you replace the stock 4 spoke steering wheel?

To remove the steering wheel, remove the two plastic pieces opposite each other on the steering column. There are 3 bolts underneath that hold the air bag in place. They're size 30 torx bit. Once you loosen those you'll need to completely remove them for the airbag to pop out. The there is a big bolt, about a 17 or 19 mm in the middle of the wheel. Once that is removed have fun removing the wheel. You need to beat it and shake it in order for it to come off. It's like an axle. It takes some force to remove it.

Find a steering wheel that fits, I don't even know if there is a standard size(to fit that axle type thing that hold the wheel in place), and repeat these steps backwards. I forgot to mention there are a couple of plugs connected to the airbag. I removed them and the air bag did not open. My advice is to keep your face out of the way just in case.

i'd pull the fuses AND unhook the battery...i, however, did not when i did my wheel swap, but um...my airbags had already deployed, so it was not an issue. as far as the 6th gen wheel...check junk yards, or ebay. those would be the 2 best options. or wait on a message board and try to jump on one...that'd be quite hard though...they are rare it seems.

I was just curious, if you replace your stock steering wheel with one that doesn't have a place for an airbag, will your car still work if the airbag isn't hooked up or if there's gonna be any annoying warnings that come on like a light or beeping?

Charlie97L did it to his sixth gen, and it looks awesome! His air bags and horn still work too. >wink.gif> He can give you more details if he comes on here and sees this.
