Alright ... since the 3S-GTE orriginally belongs to an AWD vehicle ... and since AWD cars lose more power through the flywheel, then once you put on that mean engine on a FWD car ... would you actually be making more power than if you had AWD? I know AWD rules and gets insane traction and lunches like crazy so it would probably still be faster ... but I'm just wondering about the power.

Same power, just more to the wheels.

More to the wheels, so possibly better launch if you have some crazy tires..ie. slicks
You get quite a bit more to the wheels. And personally I think that if you had 2 of the same car, same engine, one FWD and one AWD. I think that the FWD car would run a better 1/4. The AWD would launch on you. But with the extra WHP and the lighter weight of the whole transmission/transaxle put into a AWD... I think that the FWD would catch up and probably pass before hitting the finish line.
Its 4wd cuz its a rally car, they arent made for 1/4mile runs.

Ok so I was thinking right. I was just wondering ... why do people crave for AWD so much. I've ridden in my brother's TSI Talon and yea it's insane just cuz it pulls like crazy but I imagine it would feel almost the same if you simply had around 250 HP.

I thought that Celicas had no problem with traction, even after the swap. I picked that up on this forum elsewhere a while ago. Well then, speakin of traction, for you guys that have done the swap already, how does the traction work our for ya?

Does anyone know how LSD works?
EDIT: NM, I'll just look it up.

Personally, i have seen a few Celis that made the swap. My mechanic is an expert on the swap. Due to weight, the power on the fwd is greater. This is great in general but there is a very big problem to the swap.
The power of the engine (especially from the ST205) kills the transmission. I have seen a few Celis that did the swap that needed a new transmision within a week of the swap. This does not mean that the transmision of the celica is problematic. On the contrary my mechanic made the swap and drove his celica for 2.5 years without any problems. The he sold it and the new owner destroyed the transmision in 2 weeks because he believed he should race just about every car whenever he stopped at a traffic lights.
I have just drove a Celi with the swap. Engine had a few mods even before the swap. My mechanic tuned the engine down and limited the p.s.i because the car was able to spin with 4th gear.
So to make the Swap to race 1/4 miles? I just would not advice that.

yeah i agree with kuya if you've gone so far as to do the engine swap go the distance and do the tranny as well, i'm not sure on the logistics of putting a mr2 turbo tranny in the celi, custom drive axles for starters, but they are capable of with standing over 500hp.
well cant you also get the 3sgte tranny swapped in along with the motor? that would take care of the problem with the tranny being weak and all.. but how much more would that cost? dont they come with a 6 speed tranny?

ohhh ok.. stupid me.. so thats why getting the mr2 engine and tranny and swapping it would be a better idea, therefore you wouldnt have to mess with upgrading and ****ing up your allready stock stressed tranny.. i c i c... hmm i have ideas.. hehe
