I looked all over the website and couldn't find anything, other than falling in love with the Type R shift knob.

IIRC its a matter of pins, and the cables sit in the holder under the dash using some metal clips...It took me around 30 seconds to figure out hector...
That manual doesn't say anything about the shift cables, it's a short shift installation manual...
But if it's a matter of pins and clips, Andrew, I'll be able to figure it out. I just wanted to streamline my fix.
Edit: By the way, I don't know if I was misunderstood, but I didn't mean removing the shift cables from the shifter, like that little U clip on the bottom, and another on the side, I've done that before. I meant removing the shift cables from where they're cradled towards the front of the assembly.

2 "U" clips in the engine bay, might need a flat head screwdriver or a channel lock plier. Then unhook the pins under the shift stick, then take out the bolts underneath 6 10mm or 12mm bolts for the heat shield and 4 10mm or 12mm bolts for the shifter cable base.
I don't normally drive fast, but when I do its on a curvy section of this island

I only want to release them from the shift assembly, so I can slip another in. I don't want to remove them altogether.

What about the bushings that sit on the assembly? They look too big to just come off.

the uclip holds those in place. once the clip is off, you slide them forward then up&out
