Hey guys, this switch or sensor (the one with the green wire coming out of it) apparently was pretty worn out and snapped off when I was pulling out a wire from the distributor cap. Does anyone know what it is? It sticks straight up off the pipe that connects into that side of the cylinder head.

A closer look...

that looks like a coolant temp sensor, If i remember right. This is a 5s correct?
Yes it is a 5sfe. I ran the engine with that sensor broken and my temp gauge worked fine. Is that the same sensor-to-gauge?

Generally 2 wires on that back housing in coolant temp. One wire is fan switch. The gauge sensor is typically much smaller and is single wire... usually between head/block water passage. The engine will run fine generally with a bad coolant temp sensor when warm... ****ty when cold.

Yes temp sensor for cold start, mine would not start when it was cracked, it is 15 dollars at autozone
