Does the JDM and Euro celica models are marketed as a 5 seater coupe??

I was wondering because I saw this interior pic from Malpaso's tread



It seams like there's a seat belt assembly for a person seating in the middle and I'm wondering if I can fit that seat belt assembly for my celica. Thanks

It seems a bit ambiguous.
The celica has always been a 4 seater. But i know of 2 celicas friends of mine own (one 162 and one 204) that both have a middle seatbelt in the back.

I guess people have just added them, looking under the back seat will reveal though. If it was made as a 5 seater then the anchorage points will have their own reinforced mounting points like the other do, if its been added it will either piggy back with another anchorage point or have some aftermarket hole drilled somewhere.

Further in favour of the 4 seat theory, if it was 5 then the outer two seats wouldnt be so "buckety" and the middle would be lower.

To answer your question directly. Yes you could, but its: dangerous, illegal and you will only be able to take midgets and children in the middle or they will hit their head.

Does it matter? either way its illegal.

You can buy centre belt kits from automotive stores, if your that keen on it go and buy some.

Might be for a babyseat (childseat carseat etc), don't think the shoulder straps are compatible with those so you need the lap part.

So are you guys saying that all the rear mid seat belts installed on the cars are aftermarket??

My question was if the celica from Japan or anywhere else are designed to seat up to 5 people?

all pictures shows bolsters in the center, that means only two can be seated at the rear comfortable (somewhat), had they designed it to be 3 seater they should have eliminated those bolsters and should look like the seats of a common sedan.

Thats why I find it weird. The mid one is only a lap belt. Rear seats are like buckets, meant for 2 people only but having the lap belt on the middle doesn't make sense.

I just find it weird how toyota designed the rear seat with buckets for 2 people but has seat belts for 3

^ It...doesn't? Mine doesn't, true four seater. Maybe even considered a 2+2? I'm 5'9" or so and I can barely fit in back.

my back seats are always down. I consider mine a two seater.

yeah the back seat is not meant for tall people.

I only put kids in there. My gf's nephews and mine. So 3 kids at the back shouldn't be a problem, I just wanted them secured.

me including 3 other GT-fours (all my friends) have seatbelts in the middle. Might be illegal here but i guess not in japan?
