If its the transmission from a 5s-fe it will, 7a-fe...i doubt it.
I would think a transmission from an auto 5s-fe with a transmission cooler would be able to handle the power from a reasonably stock 3s-gte.

you'll need a trans controller as the 3sgte ECU wont do anything for your transmission.
your best bet would be to experiment with a ST215 engine with auto trans and find a lexus / toyota automatic trans that is the equivalent FWD of the automatic AWD trans included with the ST215.
at the end of the day, it's easier / cheaper / more practical and more fun to learn to drive manual trans and be done with it.
Why would you want an auto 3s? That's stupid, go buy a luxury car or something if you are looking for a fast auto...you'll get 4 doors, nicer interior, smoother ride, etc. If you are going for an auto, the previously stated seem to be a good fit for you, because you clearly aren't looking for a sports car if you want an auto 3s...

we shouldnt hate on it, but be helpful. if (s)he wants an auto trans thats their decision. we are supposed to be a helpful community
That said, the 3SGTE has been done with a 5s auto tranny. it couldnt take the power and he had to set the aftermarket trannt controller to shift at a low RPM 4500 or 5000 iirc.
You're best bet in my opinion would be find a V6 auto tranny and use that bolted to a 3SGTE, with an aftermarket tranny controller.
OR just do a V6 swap, keep the auto tranny that came with the motor, and proceed with swap as normal since the v6 ECU can control the tranny anyway.
BOTH options will require some very custom work with the axles and mounts as it hasnt been done before on this car...

While i agree he is better off getting a manual, maybe things we havnt cosidered here are at play, probably only have an auto licence, maybe only has 1 leg, who knows.
Regardless the v6 gearbox is a much better idea, as stephen said it will handle the snort much better.
Nothing is a straight bolt in job really, but if your handy with the spanners you can mix and match mounts and driveshafts to make it all work.

My girlfriend drives the 99 vert too and she always perfer auto. In cases like this is why some will ask for such a swap. Also my girl friend perfers a vert celica to most compact cars. She just loves the why the car looks and handles.
