i bought a 1995 celica GT for £300:-) its very nice, bodywork bit knackered but engine...oh the engine...so smooth although its done 209,000 miles...
i'm trying to order a few bits but people keep asking what engine number is, its not on my stamp under the bonnet, any other way of telling?? and can you really tell the difference between the st and gt? it seems pretty fast, lovely when you get to about 70mph in 2nd gear with the revs at 7500 :-)

any help would be very grateful.. and can anyone point me to a good place to buy parts??

70 in 2nd? Not a 7A then. I'd guess 3S-GE. Regardless, look at your firewall. It should have a chassis code, engine code, etc. stamped somewhere.

behind the brake fluid area in this pics the white thing on the firewall i believe is the engine schematic also tells you what engine it is.

Revving to 7,500 almost has to be a 3S-GE.

yeah. a 3sge i bet. 7a, 5s, and 3sfe wont make someone that happy

it does say celica GT on the back of the car :-) and it certainly goes like a GT i guess. lol

ALSO under the 2 screws that hold the strut bar i can see something etched that should say ST20_ that last number will let you know with the wiki link i sent you before

I saw that too. Y0 Dawg, I heard you like clean air so we put an air filter on your air filter so you can clean while you clean.

That's a 3S-GE for sure. See the "2000 Twin Cam 16" on the intake manifold? 2 liter, Twin Cam, 16 valves. 3S-GE all the way, as if the 7k revving wasn't a dead giveaway.

1800cc=7a
2000cc=3s
2200cc=5s
Your engine reads 2000cc twin cam. You have the 3s-ge

Correct me if I'm wrong pls.

Thanks for your help everyone. as for the air filter you can see there is an after market one so the proper one was just left there for it to lean on lol. daft question but can i damage the engine if its steam cleaned?

Avoid high pressure and electrical connections and you'll be fine. Don't do it while the engine is hot either. That will cause rust.

i've always actually cleaned my engine while its running, avoiding the intake & electrical stuff obviously.
