Topic #80880 17 posts Started by CAcelica29
i recently acquired a 6th gen, 95 st. has maual trans and im noticing its mpg could definitly be better its at about 25 average right now. what could cause this and how can i fix this! any help is appreciated.
ya i was thinking that, any thing specific besides the usual fluids, filters, plugs and wires ?
check your tire pressure and consider replacing the o2 sensor. Those are really the two main factors that affect mpg on an older car.

but 25mpg is not bad. you are probably driving more city than highway.

15PSI - 30MPG - Megasquirt Tuned
go with a tune up and just drive conservatively; I drive 30+ miles to and from school and I use around a gallon per day

tune up + watch your right foot. it affects mpg most

Depending on elevation too. Back home in Ft. Worth, it's about ~600 ft above sea level, I'll get about 30mpg mixed. But when I'm at school in Albuquerque (~5,300 ft above sea level) I only get about 24-25mpg.

25 is pretty bad for a 7afe celica.
yeah. temp does affect it. i lose about 3-5 mpg when its hot. mix of air density & air conditioner usage, and also fan usage(the power to run those comes freom somewhere...) i assume

More air into the motor = more fuel used.

I used to get 34 with my ST way back in the day, with an intake (32 w/stock airbox, I know, it sounds crazy)

I would just replace the stock tubing from the filter box to the intake with a pipe, and get a drop in filter. That is if you want to get better mpg while having the car sound a little better
