Cracked bumper: Product? Solution? - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #80966 17 posts Started by dudeofchaos
My bumper is cracked on the edge where it connects to the fender. (See picture below)

Is there anything that I can use to make it hold? I've talked to a body guy and he told me he doesn't know about anything that can make it hold since this bumper is made out of a special plastic that doesn't crack easily but when it does, there's nothing to do with it..
I'm going to sell it eventually so no tie wrap, I need something subtle.

Any ideas?
Thanks!
Bolt it then bog over the bolt. haha... or plastic weld..? not so sure seriously what you could do though. I'd just leave it to be honest man. Theres so much more serious things that id be on the look out for on a car that age
Might try 3m structual adhesive. Its is made to fix bumpers,etc..
Can only get at autobody paint/supply store. I use it all the time
to fix cracks, etc in bumpers. I used it to mod my St205 splitters
(see last page of my project thread)

It around 20 and is a 2 part adhesive mix that dries white. Its is sandable
and retains flexibility but also strength.

You will have to take off bumper to fix properly fyi..

how about stitching it up and then some repair work can be done.

i have the same problem to my gt4 bumper but on the opposite side. Going to let a body shop take care of it when the time comes.

Unfortunatly, my body guy told me he tried to plastic weld it but couldn't manage to do anything with it :S

Thanks, gonna look out for that! Or I'll just bring it to a body shop and ask them what they think about the crack.

That sounds the best solution that comes up to my mind. If you ever get an answer come back to me plz! smile.gif
My bumper has the exact same crack, exact same side, exact same length.

Lol my baby's black wink.gif Unfortunately, no. I've just kind of learned to ignore it. It seems like a really touchy area to work on and I don't want to make it worse.

Not sure if the Toyota service manual will have this information but I know for a fact a G.M. service manual show haw to repair and has a product listed with a part number, GM'S use simular plastic on there cars.
3M is your next best bet if you can't get your hands on a manual.

Alright I'll try to see if I can find one. Would you happen to know if there's a service manual somewhere on this site or on internet?
My gt4 bumper had a very similar crack like that on it, I just took it to a paint and panel place and they said they would have to send it away to get it repaired, which they did, and looks as good as new now. Not sure where they sent it too though.

Speeding doesn't kill! It never has!Stopping suddenly .. Thats what gets you!
i use 2 products.

for the inside of the repair, i use lordfusor 142 extreme plastic repair, with fiberglass cloth backing if needed for strength i wouldnt use it in the corner like that, and for the outside, lord fusor 114 (google them for lots more info)
the 142 requires a special gun to despense it, but the 114 dont.
thats how i made this:
