short shifter install help - 6G Celicas Forums

If you don't have a vise, just use a pair of pliers. Be careful, though. You don't want to crush the cup. Pliers worked perfectly for me. And remember to grease the ball of the new shifter before you push the cup in!!

ok thanks i actually didnt get to that step, im having troubles getting the clip off with the exacto knife, i cant create a big enough gap
to get it off
its making me go crazy been at it for 40 mins now
I had the same problem. I almost broke my knife. What i did was wedge it open with knife then got a pair of scissors in between it and got it evenly out the just worked from there. and as to getting the cups off the stubs i used a flat head and got it underneath the cup and pushed it off and it came off fairly easy. hope i helped

Yeah, it wouldn't budge for me either. Instead of trying to open that clip, just pop the clip off of the shift assembly. LOADS easier.
