so my car wouldnt go into 1st gear and i found out that my shifter cable broke, i swapped the 3rd gen 3sgte a couple years ago with the 5sfe tranny and i cant remember if the shifter cables were swapped as well with the old 90-93 shifter cables. can anyone clarify if i have to replace the shifter cables with the 90-93 5sfe celica? or can i just use the stock shifter cables, i hope someone can help. thanks
For anyone thats done the 3rd gen 3sgte swap - 6G Celicas Forums
if you have the S54 (stock) tranny then you have the stock cables...but i cant be 100% sure cause i didnt do the swap

i used a tranny off of a 90 toyota celica with a 5sfe motor in it if that helps, i just cant remember if i had the shifter cables swapped as well cuz it was so long ago

yeah the GT tranny uses stock (S54) Cables. the other option is the e153 cables, but those will only fit e153 trannys.
i assume the excessive heat caused by the motor/exhaust caused the cables to stretch and eventually break? same thing happened to me with my swapped (4th gen) a few years ago. the rubber had melted off the cables, and some strands of cable were broken.
hope this helps! sorry for jackin the thread a bit

Get the GT (s54) cables, not your "stock" ones.
I havn't done the swap, but its sitting in a storage unit waiting to be done
