*HELP* Rod Separation From Piston - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #81866 5 posts Started by DST94
I need to replace my rod(broke the bearing). How do i separate the rod from the piston? Similarly, do I need to hone the cylinder if i am replacing the piston with a piston from another 7AFE? (i think its yes, but i just want to make sure) Help is greatly appreciated, i gotta get her running by the end of the week. . .

There is a circlip on the piston holding the gudegon pin in. Remove that, slide the gudgeon pin out, remove rod.

You don't HAVE to, but it's always a good idea when installing a new set of rings to even just give them a light flick with the hone so you have some nice new cross hatching in the bore to help the rings bed in.

this is for an OEM piston and rod right? Im not seeing any pins, just a cylinder pushed in between the piston and the rod.

and im not ONLY replacing rings, im swapping my piston for another from a different 7AFE does your answer still apply?

nope. sorry to say, but the 7afe pins are pressed in. quite aggrovating since most other are held in by a clip..

yeah you are going to have to press the old pin out and then have the new one pressed back in..
and as long as the other piston is of the same "mark" designation for piston diamiter/ bore then you should be ok..
just make sure it is the same.. say. post a pic of the top of the piston if you can.

take it to a machine shop, they will heat it up and install the new piston on the rod. should cost more than 10 bucks.
