blown bulb warning? - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #81985 9 posts Started by yellowchinaman
I've disconnected my 3rd boot light and don't want it. Now I have a blown bulb indicator on my dash. What can I do in terms of wiring something in to fool the car thinking there is a light there?
Pls don't say remove the dash bulb.

Thanks

I remember the same issue is when you want to use LED bulbs. Someone said solution is to use resistor (somewhere) to make that checking circuit think there is still bulb connected. So maybe there is already some proved solution available.

Anyway. In this case I would try to measure impedance of common working bulb and put resistor with the same ohm value in bulb socket. But it is just common sense idea that should be verified by some electrician. Do not know if there is any weakness of this solution.

my thoughts exactly on this theary. Only problem is I'm no electrician and don't know anything about resistors.
Yup. Resistors. Volvos have those bulbout lights too and resistors is the way to go on LED's. Although I'm not sure if just a resistor is enough load to turn the light out. kindasad.gif

my guess would be to read the impedance of the regular bulb, then one with the LED, then subtract the LED amount from the regular bulb, and get a resister at whatever amount that would be so that it would be the stock amount of resistance.

**edit, to get back on track.
you could just leave the bulb plugged in inside the hatch, since it will be covered and you won't see it

Looks good

I believe i got it...

Those are resistors that makes car think you are using standard bulb (not LEDs). So you put resistor 50W, 6ohm, 12V instead of bulb and done (just note... the same as the bulb that resistor will be hot).

Thanks Malpaso. I've seen these and wasn't sure if they'd work and didn't think I should use 4 of them.

Reason why I don't want a boot light is becasue I have a carbon boot which is flushed and looks so much better.

It is your choice to buy 4 (and 3 throw away) for $7.28 shipped or buy one (e-bay link) for $9.95 plus shipping wink.gif
