e153 lsd or non lsd need to identify - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #82003 13 posts Started by diegohiga
I just got a e153 transmission from a mr2 with axles. The guy who sold it to me didnt know.because he never installed in his car. I cam tell is not a factory lsd because it doesnt have the bar across the hole. But could be a trd? Or it simply doesnt have lsd? The axles are not lsd nether.
From what it seems is not a lsd but just want to make sure, and i see that this tranny has been open before becaise it doesnt have the factory seal and it might have an after market lsd??
Btw i paid 450 for it with the axels good deal or not? Im just hoping is a lsd lol

It has these #s this should tell the year it was made right?

Haha yeah i was posting it with my phone and its hard haha
I believe you have a non-LSD. Little hard to tell from that angle but this is a TRD LSD:

Note the smaller internal hole.

However $450 including axles isn't a bad price. Complete axles alone are worth $150-200 for the set. Bonus points if it's a 93+ tranny as it has upgraded synchros.
thats a non lsd diff

You say that because of the hole? In the picture above looks like the trd hole diameter is little smaller.
i have the oem diff, there is a bar going across, the TRD diff im unsure of, but i know how much of a pita it is to tear the transmission and replace the diff, i would double check if i was you

yeeah the 93+ LSD has a bar in the middle of it. now that could be an older TRD LSD. the OEM open diff you can usually see right through

Yeah i know the factory lsd has a bar running across .thats why i know for.sure is not a stock lsd if it has it. I guess im gonna have to open it and check
Thanks
Btw... I cant use the axels to find out? Turning one to one direction and see the other one turns the same way or something like that?

Yes thats factory lsd. But trd came without that bar. Thats.why i think it could have an aftermarket lsd
Thats a non-lsd trans. My old e153 looked exactly the same. Too big to be trd.
i just looked at my e153 outta of a 91 mr2 it looks the same
