its not as easy to see the stamp on the S series, however right in the front is a big casting that says 3MZ so i hope i can cover it up somehow.

Hmmm....now that's interesting. I'd think the obd2 scan will be able to pick it up.

Grind it off to a blank plate and paint the block gray.

i doubt it would. it doesn't tell you that it's a different block or that it's a 3.3L instead of a 3.0L.
the block is basically the same as a 1mz, it just has larger pistons.

Smaay, how was the wiring done? Was there more mod that needed to be done compared to a straight 1mzfe block and head?

That's cool. I doubt I'll do a hybrid like smaays because of my budget. Lol. Would be nice though.

its not the hybrid 3MZ block with 1MZ heads anymore. Its all 3MZ engine. I just dont have VVT control. im using a 2000 Camry MT ECU right now but ill be using a 97 soon. I need to source a 97 harness.

96 harness will work with the 97 ecu too smaay

what's wrong with the 2000 mt ecu?

Silly97 ProgressDirtBag87 ProgressCalifornia Members Check In
nothing at all, It is looking for the newer style EVAP system that the 99 celica has. the 97 ECU looks for a similar EVAP system to what my 97 celica has. This will make it easier to SMOG legalize the swap in CA

Will the 3mz work with the s54 tranny? The 3MZ is about 30hp more than the 1mz,if I'm not mistaken?

yes im using an S54 now

From what I understand, you have a full 3MZ engine now, with a 97 ecu and wire harness from a 97 also, and a s54 transmission. As for the transmission it's a 3MZ flywheel with the 5sfe pressure plate and clutch disk. What else is needed to complete this awesome setup?

DOORY MCFLYhttp://www.6gc.net/forums/uploads/av-50000...time=1408581712
yes except im using a 1MZ/3MZ/2GR Fidanza flywheel with a 3S-GTE clutch however the disk has a center hub for an S54. Southbend makes this clutch and is ready to ship

I just put a stage 3 phenox friction clutch in my 5s last year and Its got about 700 miles on it so I kind of wanted to keep it.
How much was that flywheel? I heard lighter flywheels make a big difference.

That would be nice. I might get one if the Canadian dollar goes back up. But it's not like I'm installing it tomorrow. So I have to have the southbend modified 3sgte clutch and 3sgte pressure plate or is there another option? Sorry for all the questions.

I put the stage 3 because it was a good price and I wanted to make sure if I did turbo it would be able to handle it.

i believe ACT also makes this clutch but their quality has gone to crap! Never do business with them again.

the clutch is basically a 3S-GTE clutch with the disk having a hub o mate with your S54 trans.

I found a 1999 solara with 248000 miles on it. It runs good. The guy wants $200 for the entire car. Or $100 for the engine? Do you think it's a smart move if I rebuild the motor and drop it in my celi? Or should I find one with less miles?

It's probably OK to rebuild, worst case you get new liners and bearings all over and have the heads rebuilt, you'd have a brand new engine then for less than a brand new engine.

yes for that price it wouldnt hurt to just replace the bearings, piston rings, hone the cylinders, replace the valve stem seals and the valve cover seals.

I would also do the head gasket, timing belt and water pump. There. Is a rebuild kit on rock auto fot the 1mz. Its $460. Do you think I need that many parts?

DOORY MCFLYhttp://www.6gc.net/forums/uploads/av-50000...time=1408581712
do you happen to have the part number for the southbend 3sgte clutch that fits a s54 transmission?

DOORY MCFLYhttp://www.6gc.net/forums/uploads/av-50000...time=1408581712
no its not on their website, you have to call them and talk to Andy or John in the import dept. tell them I sent you
