Not to mention the interior will look like a racecar because of the huge tranny tunnel..

>The engine bay is huge, it's larger than my rx7 and I fit a 6.1 liter v8, with a front mount turbo in it. There should be no problems fitting it. The one problem he's going to run into is the steering rack location.

If he's using a Rwd transmission he's without a doubt going to have to move the rack and get into some serious bump steer correction. If you move the rack too far and have to correct it a lot, it'll probably drive like poopoo, very 'soft'. Will be interesting to see how he does it, getting the engine in there is the easy part.

I got the point. Thanks for explanation!

you know i have never really liked that way of looking at things, money for something like this is only part of this a real picture, if you were having a shop do it, then yes its gunna be super pricey , now if you have the resources and know how that takes the money out of it for the most part , yes there is still the exspences but no where near the same way , these motors are cheap i payed 400 for this motor and there all over the place , i just hate when people throw out the its gunna cost to much or tens of thousands of dollars to do it , ( not saying that you were , more supportive then anything) just sharing a thought about how i feel about that statement ,

now just for fun how bout you guys throw outs somme prices for a build like this , what your thinking for relative cost , i have my goal for cost but not sharing ,lets hear yours

>I'm in to see if this is possible... When I measured for the 7mgte-r154 tranny combo the shifter hole came up in the center console, so I would imagine the 1uz-w58 would be around the coin holder....

part of the reason going v8 and w58 were for these reason , the 1uz being a v8 can is a bit shorter depth ways so allows for more forward back movement when placing along with the tunnel being smaller for the w58 is and smaller trans then the r154 , i will plan for a fairly stock and functional interior no race car look ,lol

^^ Oh yeah. Check under your arm rest, right behind the ash tray. They're not suitable for much more than a few quarters but they're there.

I'm anxiously anticipating a startup video. Just the sound of a V8 coming from a Celica... Awesome.

Yes of course, enough know how just need the money for parts. I live in Alabama, home of redneck ingenuity. tongue.gif I understand perfectly. Best of luck to you too, RWD V8 6GC FTW! (enough acronyms, no?) laugh.gif

It's funny, because i was thinking "ashtray" because that is EXACTLY where I put all my change. So suprakid, if you didn't mean ashtray and actually meant the coin holder in the arm rest, my apologies.

On a side note, we can calculate cost and all that jazz....

But depending on what you do to the motor.... aka, rebuild it, or just run it. I think you could get out of it for around maybe 9400.... But that is me assuming, motor, drive train, mounts, some interior mods, new tires, wheels, etc to match up with the mk3 rear end. And that is you doing all the work by yourself and factoring things in like sheet metal, consumables for welding, steering rack modifications.

if you don't do all the fab work yourself it could be much worse... And that's really bare bones ....

Where do you think you are going to be on cost?
No I meant coin holder...however i was keeping the OEM clutch fan and an oversized radiator with my 7m measurements...so the the UZ and electric fans it may be closer to the cigarette/receipt/random**** tray.

Also pxcr you are not going to cut and weld in the mk3 supra tranny tunnel? The w58 isnt much smaller than the r154 for the mk3s as it doesnt have the shifter extension on the back of it.

i will be making all my own sheet metal i did some measuring on both cars tonight and its 27-28 inches from bellhousing to shifter from what i can tell laying under the car , and from stock shifter hole to firewall wal on celica is about 28 so they should be fairly close i dont plan to cut the firewall other then for the bellhousing , a 1uz is basically a box 27x27x27 in stock form and thing the 7m's are round 32 or so long i think

dont forget TT
Yep heard of that one awhile ago He did it back on 2005 i think or atleast started i have been through most of his stuff on lextreme and i vist there alot since those guys tend to deal with the 1uz alot and alot of nice projects
Although as impressive as it is that guy with the gt8 seriously needs to do something about the lack of grip or increase his drivers skill as it does appears he has ruined the handling of an st185.
well like i said it would be awhile before i did much but i got started tonight , so heres some pics of the donor car teardown

new 1uz bell housing on acid washed trans

i will keep yah updated as i go along it will be slow as i have other toys to work on too
You have my attention. I want to see how the rear subframe comes together

the rear subframe may create some issues but for the price its a great option over a gt4 subframe
If you want/need a rear gt4 subframe.. Ihave one...great work looking at this makes me miss my car... Great work!

I would have gone with the gt4 subframe and suspension but. Cost of those isnt cheap most i see are around a grand and strengh wise i would think the supra one would be stronger , also the actual parts available for the supra stuff. Makes it worth it to i have 200 in the donor car so price is right to me since i have to fabricate mounts anyways and the supra subframe is same width as rails on celica. ,,,atleast on the rear mounts
I'm curious as to know how much you will need to cut the firewall to clear the bell housing. Could u post pictures if possible? Do you think u will run into any issues with the hvac unit? Iirc where you will need to cut would be where the heater core is. I haven't seen a celica without the dash in a long time. Just trying to get an idea because I have been wanting to do the similar build for a while.

from what i have mesured and looked at you can go atleast 4 or 5 inches up on that area in the middle before yah run and then its the lower outputs for the floor heat/air which if ihave to ditch those thats fine but i do wanna keep heat and ac so i willprob have to keep the moto out a bit to clear heater hose input/outputs
which is fine cause theres lots of room in the bay
Thanks for the reply. How much room could one gain by using the w58/55 transmission instead? Or is the bell housing the same size as the r154? I'd like to avoid moving the engine forward because of weight distribution. Any plans on the brake set-up on the build?

I'll be keeping a close eye on this thread, so I can get a good idea on wheel offsets with the wider track on the narrower celica body.

the w58 is what i am using,, but the bellhousing itself would be the same since its for a 1uz
Can u post pics of the tranny in the tunnel?

damnn bro id love to see the farm, thats alot of land. my uncles and I pull tractors, farm stock (john deeres) and super stock (oliver), my uncle has a oliver 88 with a 310 thats been worked to aaround 400+ci with custom intake and exhaust manifold we made sitting on 30s, things mean for my area. could probably pull a divison 3 or 4 class out west.

theres a decent amount of truck pulls in my area, but more or less tractors.. goodluck with the truck man! and more importantly the celi build wink.gif
