Stage 3 Clutch... - 6G Celicas Forums

Was wondering what a stage 3 clutch was like. I was checking out this Civic and the guy is like it has a stage 3 clutch in it and thats all he would tell me over the phone.

Is this a different type of clutch than normal that makes it harder or easier to shift. Just a n00b question.
The higher stage the clutch, the more modified the car is.

I.E. a stage 1 clutch would be used on a lightly modified car and a stage 2 would be used on a moderate to heavy.
Stage One Clutch: is mainly for daily drivers, is a heat-treated clutch.
Stage Two Clutch: is a street/racing clutch. Is also heat-treated and made with fiber-tuff pucks. Best clutch for dealing with light bolt-on modifications (other than Intake and Exhaust) and Nitrous. Increases clamp load by 65%.
Stage Three Clutch: is a racing only clutch, made with a ceramic puck, engages immediatly to the pressure plate and fly wheel. Not designed for low RPMs, will make tons of noise (not bad fyi.) because of the ceramic puck being aggressive. Increases clamp load by 65%.
Stage Four Clutch: is made for race track driving. Also is a ceramic puck, but has no springs - just a solid hub assembly. Increases clamp load by 75%.

My former Integra had a Stage 1 Clutch installed, and I fell in love with it.

Keep in mind that each manufacturer uses different materials and designs for their stage classifications... I have a ClutchMasters FX300 (stage 3) clutch, and it feels like stock. I know other companies make stage 3 clutches using pucks instead of dampeners...
Didn't realize that, thanks Ray.

I've dealt with ProClutch the most, and thats pretty much what i've gathered from them, never really realized that it was pretty much a ProClutch assembly.

hey kuya, does your clutch masters stage 3 buck at all when you drop the clutch?

yeah, when you just drop the clutch in second gear or something the car hops and kinda throws you forward and backward.

i dont know if that makes sense, the stock clutch does it not when speed shifting but when im shifting a little faster and i get lazy with the clutch.

it doesn't do it when speed shifting. and i'm not talking about the launch, im just asking really if you can tell the difference in the grab over stock in all parts of shifting. not that im stalling the car or anything but have you ever just gotten a little quick with the clutch and had it rock you forward a little just when shifting mainly into second? my brother has a performance tranny and clutch in his mustang and you couldnt make that thing buck if you wanted too. so what im tyring to figure out is if a performance clutch in our cars would act the same or if its just the power of his car.

man, im trying to put this in words that wont make me look like i dont know how to drive a manual. >confused.gif>
