TUNER PET PEEVE'S - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #82959 165 posts Started by Lil-Joe101
It made me chuckle, I wasn't offended at all, It sounds like I hurt your FEELings.
I did not intend to. Most of the cars I grew up driving have been crushed by now.
I never got to go to driving school, my family didn't FEEL it was in the budget.
I have been driving since age 13, I used to drive flag rig for my stepdads wheat combine,
yes it is legal, it is considered a farm vehicle. I am 45 and have had one accident
that was my fault, 4 accidents total. I have driven fwd, rwd, 4wd, 6wd and a half dozen
or more track vehicles. Tanks, APCs, armored recovery vehicles as well as almost
any farm impliment you can think of. I can't afford to come drive your road course,
not that weather in the PNW would even allow it this year. I personally like back roads,
gravel, rocky, FEEL your head hit the roof roads. I don't think I am the greatest driver in
the world by any means. I am sure Skip Barber would not approve of some of my methods.
I personally like manuals because you can FEEL the engine turn over while
push starting.

My son bought an auto because his wife wanted an auto, and well, you know
how that gos. To some of us money is an object, he got a very clean
98 z28 with 60k for 6 grand.
I will tell you my kids don't look down on anyone, regardless of what they drive.
I am very proud of both of them. They are great human beings which has always been my goal.

It isn't anything about your comment, it is this thread
and the site in general. Bashing anyone, isn't what this place used to be about.
I know I am too old for this place, and it is long past time to move on.
This site used to be a great one, it wasn't built on words like ricer or noob. I met people here
I would consider some of my closest friends, hell I even flew out to RI for a meet once, with
some help from those friends. Any one of them are welcome at my home any time.
I am sorry if I hurt your FEELings I did not intend to.

JDM guy made me do it.
i hate when someone is trying to race me and my wife is in the passenger seat and my son is in the back

Why I must find a woman that can drive manual. tongue.gif

Like when you see people driving an 80's Malibu with 22" rims. You point and laugh, then smash your face into the steering wheel wondering what the Hell they're thinking. I'm doing all this in good humour, as I think most of us are. We're all guilty of at least one of these things. Unless you keep the car 100% stock, then you're just no fun at all. laugh.gif

97, you aren't too old for this place but I think you're seeing that the maturity level of the forum has waned recently (within the last 2 years or so) as more of the original/elder members/moderators has stepped back and/or are moving on. Manny, Dustin, yourself, etc. are all moving on to other vehicles or in life and aren't around to police the forum like it used to be and with the inflex of people asking about things covered in the stickies all over the forum its become less "home" and more "zoo" at points.

I don't think the intention of this thread was to bash but to list the things that annoy you about the import scene - things owners do that personally annoy you. For me, it's not a judgement call or me bashing anyone but more along the lines of having more respect for your vehicle - if you're going to mod it do the best you can with what you have even if you're limited on funds if you do it correctly instead of half-assed that's real dedication and I can respect that.

/soapbox rant

PS: I thnk you've hit the nail on the head though with your last paragraph.

Has no more Celicas
97 your not too old
I think keiri has a point the the newer members (myself included) have probably changed up the way things are on here an theres not alot of older members left so the sites bound to change up alittle as the age groups shift
But everyone here still has fun an enjoys the site it just might not be in the same way it was 2-4-6 years ago

I highly dought liljoe made this thread to bash on anyone
If he did it backfired cuz half the stufc said is all on his car lol

This is different, there is no harm in this thread. We are all just expressing ourselves n having fun while doin it bro, plus its more of an interstesting thread like someone else pointed out that we are having an oppurtunity to see other members opinion and how different we all are and what we all like and dont like. Kinda hard to help others if u know nothing about them and this is exactly what that thread is helping with.

Yea, its impressive when cars are runnin 8 sec's, 6 sec's, whatever, but anything thats not unbelievable fast, doesn't seem like it takes a whole lot of skill either than hitting your shifts, and having the cash/knowledge to build a car.

Probably gunna get flamed, oh well.

heh this is how I feel... I mean I do it too but come on Road races are so much more awesome. just like a Lady a track should have some nice curves.

besides what can you say about drag racing "woooooooo! I went fast in a line!" sure if you go fast in a line with a Manual you can say "I nailed my shifts perfectly!" where as an auto....

>Lol, I don't get why you think I was bashing. Its MY pet peeve. If you and your son think auto is cool, congratulations.

Why do you rush to judge my driver skill based on not having 10 years behind a wheel? I am a far better driver then 90% of people with over 10 years behind a wheel.. I have actually taken high performance driving classes at Pacific Raceways. And not just in a Celica like you you probably are assuming, but in my Dad's Dinan tuned BMW. So please don't tell me I don't get the "feel" of a car! That is flat out rediculous that just because you are older than me and your license has existed longer than mine, that I don't know the feel of a car. I'm talking about track racing cars built to do so and you are assuming I just like to street race? I thoroughly enjoy driving on the track, and as Jordison stated, I LOVE the feeling of hitting your shifts through corners, etc. YES, the FEEL! I'm telling you straight up that it would be nowhere near that fun in an auto. I also enjoy drifting (I'm 5 minutes from Evergreen Speedway). Again, NOT happening in an auto. And automatic drag cars are pointless IMO. To me, the sport is all about the launch, not who can press the gas pedal down the fastest, haha.

It was just a comment about my pet peeve... Sorry it made you so upset, lol. That's just so rediculous that you think you need 10 years to get the "feel" of a car? I've had an 05 Audi A4 1.8t Quattro, ST165, my 6gc, AE86 GTS, and s13 (Guess none of those are driver's cars...) I've taken Car control clinics, gone to lapping days with my dad's BMW club, and done high perofrmance driving school. I was also a delivery driver for three and a half years. I have LOTS of experience, with LOTS of cars, so that is just an incredibly ignorant assumption. And yeah, let's see who can get a better lap around pacific raceways, srsly. wink.gif tongue.gif

Goodness why does everyone's opionion need to be the same..its a freaking forum..

I had training on Michigan Motor Speedway. I drove NASCAR stock cars, F3's and the demo car (stupid Avenger.. God that thing sucked). It's awesome what professional training can do to your daily driving habits. I see things happen before they actually do now and can do things with my car I never expected. It's gotten me out of some serious situations. For example, I hit a corner that was an entrance to a off side road going 60 (legal highway speed) that my GPS told me I had an off ramp for. It didn't... in a matter of milliseconds I was able to hit both apex's at highway speeds to save myself and the car from hitting a wall. It doesn't matter how much wheel time you have (although for some, time is all that teaches... :\), it's how much you care about driving and how well you adapt or can take in what your car is telling you.

I can honestly say that our Celica has an insane amount of feel. You can tell when your tires loose grip before the squeal, you can feel what's breaking, you can feel the roads texture, you can even tell wind direction. It's amazing how much this generation Celica tells you through the steeringwheel and seat.

Back on topic though.

I saw a civic today with what looked to be a block of wood on the hood and what seemed like milk jug plastic bolted inside the fenders to make mudflaps. It also had a $30 DC fart howitzer.

Oh and saw this the other night:

I wanted to break his window and steal his wheels. Sweet R34 Civic Toyota bro!

...and then there are things like this...

How turn, you do?

I don't really have any hate for anyone into modifying their cars.......taste is subjective. Something may not be my style, but to each their own.

My biggest pet peave is really just how arrogant most "tuners" (and I use that term VERY loosely) are. They learn how to do an oil change or change their pads and all of the sudden everyone else in the world is an idiot.

Cars (more specifically modifying cars) are meant for enjoyment. That's it. Once it turns into a "look at that ricer over there" scene, it's not fun anymore. Maybe that guy is a "ricer", maybe we're all "ricers".....I have respect for people that do things to satisfy themselves, not the all-to-common, desperate for approval by their peers mob mentality that most seem to have now adays.

I respect passion and ingenuity and people who are honest with themselves about why they do what they do to their car. I don't have time for a-holes who don't do anything but JDM their car up and talk **** about everyone who doesn't.

i remember back in the early/mid 90s people were using the Thule roof racks, jeeps, and euros had them. and being that im from NY originally i always thought it was a euro thing.

a Vee Dub fanatic friend of mine told me it IS a euro thing, and it made me realize something: the honda guys go through fads so quickly that they latch onto anything that looks sorta cool. (because there is such a big fight to look original in their own culture).

Man, after watching some guys from a local shop trying to figure out my buddie's IS350, I don't think I'd trust any tuning shop I that I didn't know the person working with the car pretty well.

"A true car enthusiast can see the potential in any car"QUOTE (njccmd2002 @ Oct 3, 2008 - 2:01 PM)i rather be a slow turtle in risk of extinction, than a fast locust, that you can see everywhere and need to be terminated.
Yeah, I worked at a local tuning shop called MXPi Tuning. It was a Toyota shop (even though I spent most my time working on S13's and Z32s) It was shady as hell. I ended up getting kicked out cause I told the owner off on some ****. There are seriously only 2 shops in the area I trust and Ive known the owners for 5-6 years since I first got into drifting. ILLGarage and Touge Factory. **** the rest of the local shops, other than maybe Fizz (but I've heard quite a few complaints about their techs). It is really hard to find a reliable shop.
