Topic #83134 23 posts Started by Needles
i was on the street yester day and its starting smelling burn , and i heard a noise like `>ping> and the clutch stop working,
so i drove the car in 2nd gear to home,

at neutral: if i push the clucht,
-feel loose, but the pedal come back
-when i push the clutch , the rpm goes downs and almost shut down the engine,

what happen ?
do i have to get a new clutch or a new cylinder clucht?
do i have to open the tranny?

thanks

yes i can drive it, but the clutch dont do is job at all,
maybe the clutch cylinder is dead
any leaks or some type of failure in the hydraulics? tob problem? its somewhere in line between pressing your pedal to the clutch system.

sounds like it to me....
I could use a better description of the problem here, maybe make a video of it if you can.

Im thinking something may be wrong with the fingers or throwout bearing. Are there any noises? Or does it simply die when you push in the clutch?
Maybe the spring on the fork came fell out(theres the ping noise and clutch failure) and its wedging into clutch somehow, causing the loose pedal feel.
It definately sounds like your going to be pulling the clutch soon, if you need some pointers were here to help.

I feel like people ask for help on topics like this, they get some ideas from the members here, then they go and get a mechanic to tix it and dissappear forever. Wouldnt it be nice if the OP stuck around to close their topic?

im not sure if 5sfe is prone to this, i just know its a symptom thats known for crank walk. just throwing ideas out there. what about broken clutch springs?

Last time he was active was the day after he posted the topic(his second post here), so we will prolly never know. But based on the OP's post it sounds like something catastrophically failed because it failed so suddenly and he heard noises. To my knowledge crankwalk would be a progressive failure not an instant one.

srry for long time no reply,

i just think ist the clutch bearing that burn up, because when i swapped, (i have 3sgte and mr2 tranny) i forgot to put grease on the bearing, after i changed my thermosthat and for the first time since my swap, the engine get heat (up to normal temp, ) and the bearing just burn two day after, cause no grease into it,
i think its what happend,

and now need to remove the transmission and change the bearing

no leak from clutch master

do you get a loud high pitched sound? that would be the TOB.

Sounds like springs to me as well. Could be the TOB (Throw out bearing)

99 Celica GT-S91 Subaru Legacy Sport AWD Turbo2010 Acura RDX Turbo w/ Technology Package68 Impala SS Convertable
The throw-out bearing is wedged up against the input shaft by a fork. You'll see it once you separate the transmission.

OOOoooOOOOo that smell...yea thats your clutch cooking.

Game over, get in there and find the exact issue!
Answer:

The throw out bearing likely went bad.
That's very common. But before you condemn it, get someone to operate the pedal while you observe the clutch lever at the bell housing. If the lever fails to move or moves little, check for fluid in the master cylinder. If there is a low fluid level top it up. You may have to bleed the system. If still no movement suspect the clutch master cylinder. If fluid is dripping from the bell housing or clutch cylinder the slave cylinder needs re-sealing/replacing. If all appears normal, there is a phosphor-bronze bushing in the centre of the flywheel (the throw out bearing) which can seize onto the gearbox input shaft.

i just found that anwser very useful,

but what about the clinkkkk sound ive heard when the tob seize ?
what can it be, one spring on the clutch ?
suggestion ?

should i buy a new clutch,
or do i need to buy all the clutch setup whit pressure plate and flywheel
