DKGT4's Project - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #83271 97 posts Started by DKGT4
So it has been some time since I've worked on by 6GC... I just thought I would throw on a few more progression pictures.

I just installed a new dash kit by Lockwood...:

Also just got a new addition and project to work on. I was inspired by LED_BOY:

Love the dash kit! What's the part number? I would love to get this. Also I liked the hood dampers. Where did you get those? Are they OEM? I've been looking for them for a while. I must not be looking for them in the right place!

Hey the dash kit I actually found on E-Bay. I was just looking and really gave up on looking for new dash kits or dials. I had purchased SPREE's led kit and all though it was nice, it just didn't do justice for me. I really wanted to spiffy up the dash to make it look modern. Anyways, I have attached the link so that other people can get this!!!

As for the hood dampers, I also got those from E-Bay and I was lucky that I found carbon fibre ones... They fit perfectly, however I am thinking of getting a carbon fibre hood (due to hail damage) and well.. I think that the dampers may be too strong, if I use them I'll end up folding the carbon fibre hood in half when I try to close it. We'll see. I tried to find the link for the hood dampers... however I was unsuccessful. Sorry!!

Anyways, some have asked me to add some more to my progression... As you all know, I just purchased some awesome JL Audio TW3 10" subs and want to put them in. Some may say that I am a copy cat, but I give much credit to LED-BOY's progression thread where he did the sound system for his wife. It has given me inspiration and I really liked the factory look of the final product. Here is what I have so far:

This is what I started off with, but just didn't look right... So I had to go back to LED-BOY's thread and well, I had to start again... I did some cutting with a dremel and made more space to work with:

Then I used a thinner box as it was easier to work with and contour the edges:

After all the box was lined, I then sealed all the corners with masking tape and now I'm ready to start applying resin and fibreglass:

Cant wait until I start laying fibreglass down and things start to take shape. Ill post more as I go!!!

Good work smile.gif Keen to see how it goes smile.gif

SOLD :( 1997 ST204 Celica ZR ----->See it here on 6GC!2013 October Celica of the Month XDNow: '00 NB8B Mazda MX5 ----->See it here in off topic!
So some updates as I go. I have been trying to find time to actually lay the fibreglass into the molds. This is what I have so far. It doesnt look too bad for a first timer.

Now I'm having a hard time removing the tape from the half enclosure... Any suggestions... I'm thinking a blade and some patience... I figured a sander would help but the adhesive from the pate would just gum the sand paper all up and render it useless...

At this point all I am doing is strengthening the box enclosure so that there is minimal vibration. Once I figure out how to get all the tape off, I need to start to place the mounting points to the car and for the 10" sub mounts.

I unpacked my subs as well just to see how beautiful they are, and boy are they a beaut!!!

So I ran into an issue. Im trying to change the wheel bearing on the front driver side of my 6GC... And I cannot remove the upper ball joint. I think that it might be seized.. Does anyone know of a good way to take it off of the hub assembly? I sprayed it with some WD40 to loosen it, but I don't think that it is going to help.

HELP please!

Never mind.. I took a hammer to it and it just needed more force than I was giving it. Just didnt want to damage anything...
