Where is it on the transmission? its hard to find. and would i need a new one?
Should be right on the topside of the transmission. Find it first and go from there.
Edit: It's about $25 from autozone for the back-up light switch.

check your fuse and also the harness on top of your transmission, just in case, its not the ground wire. its the one with an actual harness connector by itself. dont look for it with all those wires bundled up with the starter thats not it. should be fairly easy to find.

When I first bought it. The left one worked but the right one didn't. So I decided to replace them both and then both didn't work. I put in both the old ones and both still didn't work. Now it just doesn't turn on anymore.
Can anyone get me a pic of it? I have the same exact problem but I can't seem to find it on my tranny. My car info is on my signature.

Back up lamp switch what it be called.

So how do you test it if it's good or bad? I heard of the jumping method. Where you jump the two wires on the switch. Can anyone tell me how to do this method properly? Like do I have to turn my key to on and then jump it? Do I have to put my gear into REVERSE? Or what? Also I have a 5spd if it matters.

Should be an ohm rating for it somewhere. Would find for sure in the shop manual, possibly somewhere online too.

check too since you mentioned 1 light goes on and the other doesnt sometimes you have a bad socket(S) or wiring. if youre fuse is good, im leaning towards the between the wiring from the tranny to the actual bulb sockets. sometimes they go bad, corrode, or stick together, or whatever.

What I know for sure is that my bulbs are good because I switch the turn signals and my reverse light bulbs and the bulbs work. The next thing I'm going to do is have my friend inspect the re-wiring that was done by the previous owner. Might've done a ****ty job on re-wiring on something.

Decided to replace the reverse lamp switch and it solved the problem. Now my reverse lights are working again. It was hecka hard trying to get to it. It was in an awkward spot where you can't get it out with a wrench or a deep socket. But I got around it and got it replaced.

I tried every idea at our base auto hobby shop and nothing worked because of the tight location and the main wiring harness being directly above the switch. Thanks.

I don't know if you received my message but here it is again to help everyone else who runs into this problem.
Honestly. I believe I got lucky on this one. The extension bar I used was a 1/2" extension bar that got twisted and bent a bit from a previous use. So it was angled where it was barely enough to grip the sensor. It's a tough spot to get to. I'd recommend you use ratchet with a SWIVEL SOCKET or a SWIVEL EXTENSION. It helps you get pass through these ugly angles.
Here's a link to what I'm talking about if you don't know what SWIVELs are.
Just a FYI. it should be fairly easy to loosen up. Shouldn't be on their so tight.
