Turn signal screws are stripping - 6G Celicas Forums

Ok. So I have a 1997 Toyota Celica GT and the screws that are holding the turn signals in starts to strip when I try to screw them out. The one on driver side is already stripped from previous owner and the passenger side I tried and it started stripping so I stopped. I am just using a simple hand powered phillips screw. Is there any way to remove it without stripping them? I want to replace the bulbs and now I also want to replace both screws due to stripping.

You probably have bad screw driver the nose is very important is you find an better screw driver it might be better.
Or else you might need professional help and buy better screws.

mine come out well with a stubby phillip's that has the thicker sides / edges on it. if it's too thin, then it'll just keep jumping the edge on the screw.

Okay. Never mind. I found another way around changing the turn signal bulbs. What I did was unbolt the foglights and moved it out the way and stuck my hand up the bumper and twisted the bulb off. smile.gif

Hahahhaha. Yea you can say that. It's not worth the money to replace two screws. Going to cost me about 30-50 dollars to buy the dremel or drill and bits. Lol.

get out the screw and get a new one.

the screw is stripping because you are using the wrong head size and angle.

A flat head should get it out


The head size is right and I was in the right angle. It was just cheap screws I believe. And I can't use a flat head because I have no dremel to cut into it and it'll cost too much to purchase one and do it. So I'm just going to stick with my method of going around it. Save some cash. biggrin.gif

BOTH of my turn signal screws are stripped like that. I haven't really done anything about it because I haven't needed to, but I washed my car today and water got into one of the housings. That's the incentive I needed to finally replace those screws. Getting them out will be a bitch.

Yes. The Phillips head is a cross / plus sign, a flat head is just a straight line. You take a flat and put it in one of the two lines that creates the cross....and wallah, it fits if you have the right size. If you really need me to, I'll get a picture for you tomorrow.

I actually tried doing that before and it didn't really work out since it's badly stripped and the flat head can't grip it. I tried the rubber band method too but didn't work. It's okay though. At least I found a way around it. Thanks.
