Oil Pump Gone? - 6G Celicas Forums

So, on the way home my oil pressure light came off and on, stayed more off than on. But in the process of getting her back to the garage she started to make this horrible grinding/knocking noise. I havent taken anything apart, Im waiting for the engine to cool down, but hope someone here may be able reassure me that its the oil pump, and nothing else.....
Just in case anyone has a similar problem..........turns out the oil pump pulley was wallered out. No metal in the pan, just the pulley is shot. Odd that the pulley would be shot, but better than the alternative I guess. Time to find a pulley, or worse case a whole pump assembly.

Im 100% sure you should just replace the entire assembly. It isnt worth the risk.
I was thinking that, but the last time i had the pump apart i checked the tolerances and it was well within specs. And thst was about 4 months ago.

Lol but said pump had failed you 4 months later
oh, i had it apart to replace a gasket and the seal.
Well, just to make sure that everything else was good I removed the oil pan (flex pipe, front motor mount, stiffener plate, crossmember bits, etc) in about 45 min...getting pretty good at this process. Took a look up inside and everything was good, no metal shavings/chunks in bottom of oil pan, nothing stuck in the pick up. Plenty of free movement with the rotors, no resistance at all. Removed the oil pump rotors and took measurements. .15 for the rotor tip, and .12 for the rotor body. Again well within in specs, .20 being the maximum for both. So all that being good, Im wondering how the pulley destroyed its self....any thoughts?
So, I found a place that sells OEM parts and has them in stock. Picked up new pump, checked clearances and they are very, very good. Installed pump, cleaned pan and mating surfaces, installed pan, timing checks f'n great, everything torqued down to specs. Tomorrow put some oil in and start her up. Hope everything is good to go after that point, then I'll button it all back down and test it out.
Well everything is good so far. Even had time to replace front n rear mounts.
