Topic #83815 17 posts Started by 6gcpr
My gas tank has a hole in it and i don't have a lot of mechanical know-how to take it out and fix it. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Nobody here has any insight on this matter?

Give it some time, you can't expect a response in a day.
In the mean time, search.
I'm sure this has been covered before. Multiple times.

the gas tank is held underneath by two metal belts. it has several hoses i believe in the rear drivers section. It weighs a bit. I had to disconnect those when i did my sway bars.

also you may want to disconnect the fuel pump. you get to this by removing the back seat, and a couple of screws. i dont know if you have to remove it completely to do this, ive never done.

Wow thanx man, thing is have a lot of it disconnected already, its just hanging in the air. It moves around like its going to come down but something seems to be holding it at the rear of it just under where the rear seats should be. Since i cant see over the tank i really cant see what else is holding it up.

the fuel pump and the lines are all at the top of the tank, you need to take out the back seat to get to them

Do you need to remove the exhaust to drop the tank? because I'm going to need to do this very soon as well since my lines are starting to rust out.
Did you remove the filler hose/neck?

Just stick a quarter stick of dynamite under there, more and you blow up the tank, less and it may stay attached biggrin.gif

Well, since the bolts on my exhaust were rusted and sealed up real good, i had to cut my exhaust. Since the exhaust crosses the fuel tank, it is necessary to remove it to lower the tank.

Victory is mine!!! The tank is finally down!!! Although i hate to admit that after everything was disconnected and loose, actually bringing it down and out was harder!!!! It was a pain but it is finally down. Thanks to everyone who put their input here, thanks to you guys, the celica is one step closer to being completed!

Im going to fix the old one, it has a fuel leak. I would get a new one if it weren't so expensive. The toyota dealership is asking $449 for a new one!

This is over a week old, but please don't weld the fuel tank... Most people won't do it anyways it's dangerous. Just find a scrap yard and you can probably get one for like $150-200.

Jajaja if only it were that easy!!!! I live in puerto rico and the 6gc is like finding a needle in a haystack! Ive called over 80 scrapyards and found nothing. Living here for 12 years and have only seen like 7 running on the road. Don't worry, already found a autobody technician who knows how to fix my problem!
