STOCK Am/Fm Cd/Cassette player question - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #83831 6 posts Started by jdbirk88
Noob here...

I have a 1997 Celica ST Hatchback 5 speed.

Radio recently went out. A friend of mine gave me his stock AM/FM CD/Cassette player from his 1996 Celica. I'm attaching a picture so you know which unit I'm referring to. Now, my question is... will this unit work with my car? Or do I need an AMP? I looked in my owners manual & this particular stereo was offered my my model year. Just need to know if it will work or do I need the factory AMP. Also, How do I look to see if my car already has an AMP?

Any help is GREATLY appreciated!

Thank you!

should work if you wire it right. if its a gt usualy you would have an amp, im sure you dont but check under your seat, might be a connector for it somewhere
The amp sits behind the climate control unit. If you have a 6 speaker system, you have a factory amp. 8 speaker system, two factory amps.

My brodad plugged in a sienna(?) head unit before he sold it to me. Looks stock, fits stock.

i've got about a 98 cd player head unit from a 6 spkr system plugged into my 94 with the premium audio 8 spkr system.... flawless.
the cables between head units and the amp for each system aren't even any different.
I always wanted this oem radio, or this one too: (Sorry, pic is upside down, idk why)
