celica powered by a non-toyota motor? - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #84106 42 posts Started by 6gcpr
They say with money, anything is possible. I honestly want to know if anyone here would actually swap out our motors with somthing from the honda offering etc....? Im a toyota purist myself and wouldn't do it actually, but i cant deny the power that the b-series and k-series are capable of. I respect a well designed motor. Or how about the transverly mounted sr20? Tell me your thoughts on this matter.

Honestly i dont think theres a honda motor that can perform better than a toyota motor because every honda motor lacks the same thing. Torque.
That being said tho the honda b,k,j series swapped are great swaps i could see doing it if you had a celica shell and wanted to build a cheap track car with a solid motor that has a ton of aftermarket support
Guys do this exact thing in old school corrollas all the time
Its really common anymore to swap a honda f20c (s2000 motor) into an ae86
Body an suspension the car is backed well for drifting an the f20 has the extra power an aftermarket support to make yourself a fun drift car that is probably still reliable to dd everyday

Totally agree with you about the torque. And yes, i've seen the popularity of the f20 and f22 being swaped over to hachi-roku lately, its just a solid built motor from the factory.....speaking of swaps, earlier today i was bum rushed by a 3sgte swaped 97 toyota tercel. We weren't racing or anything like that, he just thought i was too slow and he just stepped down on that bitch and he just took flight and passed me with no effort at all....

im a purist and anything that says Honda does not belong on a Toyota. there are plenty of engine options in the toyota world that will support your goals. it all comes down to money. another problem with the K series is the same as the ZZ series. the intake and exhaust are on opposite sides. the header would hit the steering column. A B series would be easier but another problem is the transmission is on the other side of the engine.

This is why i say rebuild your engine and boost it, swap it with a 3S-GTE, or go V6. all of these options are a "drop in"

I think this is just all talk
I dont think he has the interest in actually putting a honda motor in a celica

im not thinking about doing any type of honda swap, im just curious as to know what people might actually swap into our celicas. Its always interesting to hear creative and imaginary ideas from people. I understand what you said about the intake getting in the way of the steering column and whatnot but, like i said before, anything is posible if u gots the moneyyyyy!!!

Not too familiar with domestics setups, think you can shed some light on that for me?

350 is a small block chevy v8
An the caddy trans is reference to a fwd Cadillac trans that can bolt up to a v8

Now, I believe and agree that Toyota engines should be in Toyota cars. But if you know how to make a Honda hybrid (B20 block/B18 or B16 head for instance) you can get some really great torque. That being said, again, I wouldn't put a Honda in a Toyota ... I've built Honda's for the last 12 years ... booooring. But it would be cool to see what can be put in a Celi ... purely out of experimental purposes. Hell I've seen people take the 1ZZ Toyota engine out of a Lotus Elise and replace it with a Honda Civic or Integra Type R engine easy enough. Hell, I've even seen someone use the drivetrain from a CR-V and make an AWD Integra. It can be done.

Sounds fun enough, but how much does it weight? What kind of power would it make?

Couple of months ago I read about a 3rd gen mr2 with a k motor swap. Looked kind of snazzy actually, more than likely gave the mr2 some much needed mphhhhhh.

currently there is a k20 that has been put together with an e153 transmission. Its somewhere on the MR2 Beams forums if I remember correctly. I think its going into a MK1 or MK2

Wow...........1200hp seems like a lot for our celicas to handle, maybe on a dragstrip but on the streets? Sounds like one hell of a beast to handle.

1200 out of a SBC is for someone who has no ambition to drive the car and enjoy it, and has super deep pockets. Not to mention you would need a blower on it, which would be pointless because the engine would be mounted in there sideways....

Is this thread really still going? rolleyes.gif

www.tweakdperformance.comsales@tweakdperformance.com
I said it as more of a joke than anything.
But you could build a sbc with 1200 hp without a blower
But like you said it would take alot of money. An depending on what its in you could still drive it an enjoy it.
It would just be overkill lol

Of course the thread is still going, why shouldn't it? Its fun to see what wild and crazy swap people churn out, join in on the fun!

Oh, I know what people get in their heads. I deal with it every day. 2JZ VW Beetles, 1UZ 58 Chevy's, 2JZ 7th Gen Celica, 2JZ 95, 91, and 04 Mustangs. I even had someone message me about putting a 2JZ into a 94 Corolla...What will they think of next.....

that is a valid request, although, a dune buggy might be a little bit more structurally sound.

There was a guy in my town with a 4wheeler that had a ford 302 in it
That thing was crazy

You make a valid point phoenix, some people are just a little.....how do i say this without hurting feelings....i don't know stupid and unethical when it comes to swaps. Just last year my mechanic did a alltrac motor swap to a 96 corolla. An awd corolla? Bitchin!!! 4wheeler with a 302= fun timessss! How about we shoehorn a 3sgte into a scion iq?

Actually I've seen a posting on Craig's list a lil while back guy had a 90s mr2 w/ ls1 in it. That was nice
Mr2 with a ls1 poweplant....i may be wrong but im guessing a lot of fabrication went in onto that build.

I can't recall to much because I was along time ago but I think he was selling for around 10000 with I think 600 to the rear wheels.
I know small block/big block V8 swaps are pretty popular in RX-7's. I have a friend with a 400 big block putting out over 600 hp in his 94 RX-7.

6gcpr: They made an AWD Corolla in the late 80's, about the same time as Honda made the AWD Civic ... I'm sure it was a competition thing rolleyes.gif .... I personally think having a built 3S-GTE powered Corolla would be a sick sleeper.

Xander i would love to convert my 95 corolla into a 3sgte awd. It would take people completely off guard. Sadly its my dd so nothing happening there anytime soon.....maybe sometime in the future...mmmmm

TOTALLY! The friend with the RX-7 had a first gen Eagle Talon sleeper when I met him (about 11 years ago). Though it's not as sleeper as a Corolla. It looked bone stock unless you looked close at the giant intercooler behind the bumper. It was an 11 second car that he drove around everyday and then tore apart and rebuilt every winter. I think he was pushin out around 25lbs of boost and 600hp a few years later when he finally parted it out and left DSM as a distant memory. That would be sick in a 4-door Corolla sleeper.

Honestly if you've got the money anything is possible, but a b series? come on now thats not even worth the effort. I would much rather have an F or J atleast engine's with potential tq to be had even then it would just be cheaper to get an eg which mounts, harnesses etc are plentiful for the chassis.

Cleaning and improving my new found yoter little by little.
