What is the Normal Break in period for a fully rebuilt 3sgte. my guy at toyota says to take it easy for 5000 miles. Which sucks because I only drive the celi on the weekends.

Just drive it kinda easy for about 500 miles, then drive it how you would normally drive. You drive it easy for 2000 miles, then start raggin on it, something is gonna break.
Haha, this is a funny question. Ask 10 different engine builders, and you'll get 10 different answers. Some people say run them hard right off the bat, some say baby them for a while. 5000 is definitely on the long side. I'd say be nice to it for like 500-1000, but thats just me.
i would go easy for 1000 miles.. i wouldn't let the rpm's go over 3k for the first 500 then 4k for the next 500miles... and so on..

it you rip it right away you'll blow the motor within a week, it happened to a friend of mine. When i got my civic rebuilt, i waited 1500km then ripped it and it was fine.
I always heard that you should take it noticable easy for the first 500 miles...not letting the rpms get high at all...and then after that drive it normally...meaning drive it normal and dont rag on it at all..just normal slow and easy driving for another 500 just to be sure...better safe than sorry right? =)
Be sure to run non-synthetic oil in it for the first 1000 -1500 miles. Then switch to synthetic.
Also dont let the engine sit at any particular RPM for too long, including at idle. Never use the cruise control during break-in.

I had the engine in my Bronco rebuilt and the guy told me to run it wide open. I've heard it both ways, but if it were me i wouldnt do any really hard revving for the first 500-1k . Just take it easy and then build up to the high rpm runs, bein a little harder on it as you go. once its had some time to break in, itll be ready for weekend crusin, or street racin some ricer, whichever floats ur boat. >

i would do what the mechanic tells you. he is the one who rebuilt the motor so he knows it better then anyone.
at the very minimum i would take it easy for the 1st 1,000 miles.
dont pay any attention to how drag motors are broken in. most of the time they get rebuilt after every race and are not ment to last 100,000+ miles.

i would take it out and go full throtle in second gear up to redline, then let it wind all the way down to about 2k rpm. do that i think its like 6-8 times then go back and change the oil. then just drive normal for the next 100 miles, then change the oil. then drive it the next 500 miles normally then change the oil and that's it.
btw, when i saw drive it normal, you dont have to baby it.
that to me is the best way seat the rings.
