Radio antenna broke - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #85211 12 posts Started by lagos
My raido antenna broke. You can hear the motor spinning, but the antenna is stuck in the up position.
I took out the antenna mast, and noticed that the cable either broke or fell off its track. Is this repairable or should I be looking for a replacement?

I might go with something like this if I do replace it.

Mast is replaceable -- $30 or so. It's nigh impossible for the cable to fall off its track due to the design of the gearing, but breaking is common as the plastic ages and becomes less flexible.

That eBay antenna base suggests it works only with a manual antenna, which would mean sourcing the antenna probably from a base model seventh-gen.

Yeah I think you are right. I tried to reinstert the antenna based on a few howto videos I watched and it just wont catch the track. I think there is probably a piece of the cable stuck inside of there. I'm going to have to remove the motor and see whats going on.

The s2k antenna is an option, but like you said its not a direct bolt on. I think people end up hacking/crimping/glueing things to make it work, but I'm not sure if thats the route I want to take.

Ebay has them for like 10-20 bucks for an aftermarket mast and cable.

Well autozone has a $20 mast and cable that appears to be identical but it either break or strips in a months time. Im on my third one.
Definately not going to waste money on anymore aftermarket ones
Have the same issue. After trying 2 different used ones that were almost as bad, it wasn't worth it to me to buy a $50 toyota OEM one (mast only. the motor is like $300+). I just left it up and unplugged the motor.

Titus-Will Toyota, used to run their online parts counter as 1sttoyotaparts.com but I think they had to change their URL. Still accessible via http://parts.tituswilltoyota.com/oempartscat.html -- looks like my price is a little out of date, I replaced mine a few years back when the yen was weaker. If you're not certain which one, send an e-mail to Aaron or Tracey with your VIN and they'll pull the correct part number.

If you can get the 7th gen base, then it should be bolt on. Thats what I did. No crimping or glueing.

Yes but the 7th gen base might be hard to find or expensive. I'm trying to keep this as a cheap repair.
But I have a BMW at our shop that I might be able to use the antenna base from.

I ended up taking out the whole antenna assembly and found that the cable had in fact broken inside.

I bought a new mast from Autozone for 20$ and like stated on here, it was terrible. It "worked" but didnt fit correctly at all.
I found a sell on ebay that has OEM masts for about 28$ and placed an order. Hopefully that fixes it.
