Rear window seal? - 6G Celicas Forums

Hello guys I just waxed my 94 celica hatch back and I got some wax on the rubber seal that goes around the hatch window. Now it doesn't quite feel like rubber it almost feels like a mix of felt and rubber and seems to be very porous. I have tried all kinds of rubber conditioners to bring the stain from the wax out but nothing works. It looks like a grey stain were the wax touched the seal in many places. I also tried WD40 which made it darker for a little while then it faded back to grey. Any ideas how to fix this? I am not sure what type of material the seal is made of, it does not seem to be rubber as I can clean the other window seals off???? Thanks,

Yeah.... Same thing happened to my rubber... White and grey now. I found the best thing to use is tire cleaner, seems to help. It'll stay black for a good week or two. As long as you do it every time when you wash the car it'll be ok.

'thanks for the reply. I was thinking of using vinyl or carpet paint from duplicolor but I thought it might dry it out and crack it??? Not sure though.....
I had good results with Mothers Back to Black and some elbow grease. The stains have yet to return.

Was thinking about getting some of that, I had just figured it was more or less like tire shine though.

That stuff is awesome. I highly recommend it. It's great for all the window trim, grille, and plenty of bits and pieces under the hood. It doesn't come off paint easily though, took me a couple of washes to clean up some spots where I got sloppy. Also, dust doesn't cling to it like I thought it would. It's a bit steep at $8 for a small bottle but that bottle will last a while.

May seriously have to get some if the other stuff I already have doesn't get it.

Thanks for the info. I 'll have to give that a try! I'll probably tape off the paint in case I get sloppy or drink a six pack before applying!
