Re-Introduction! - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #86025 29 posts Started by RobStar86
Take 2!

Hi everyone, my name is Rob and I joined a long while ago just lurking. About a year and a half ago, I had the opportunity to purchase a very very clean 97 GTS. Sale never ended up going through as the buyer for my car backed out.

The first intro and details are here. First Introduction

Anyways, things have changed and I said I'd be back.

First up, ended up picking up a 6th gen finally! It's a 1994 GT-Four WRC biggrin.gif

The turbo is seized, I have someone about to rebuild it for a very good price so it's going to be kept as a part time daily since I have a truck for work and will only drive it the odd time when I have time off.

Next up, my 2000 Celica GTS was taken off the road and a swap is underway...

Yes, that's a VQ35 from a 350z and yes I have too much time on my hands. I have all the parts to make the swap happen and I'm about 75% complete welding the trans tunnel in.

I still have my ae86, it's just been pushed back till after the Celica swap is finished.

Anyways, hope to post some more and get to know everyone a bit more!

So hello again!

Hahahaha, I've actually got a blog going about it but it's moving quite slowly. The weather we've been having has been ridiculously hot so it's been nearly impossible to work on the car. Once I get some more updates going and it's moving more regularly, I'll make a thread about it!

I hate you! nice GT-4 and yes lets see more on that 7th gen swap. please join newcelica.org and post your stories there too. i dont think anyone has thought of a VQ swap in a 7th gen. i was considering a 3MZ

I'm already a member on there but I find that forum is very negative towards people doing swaps like this. I'd rather finish it then make a post showing it off. Another guy on there is nearly done a 2jz swap and has so much negativity in his thread. Not a fan of it to be honest.

I posted a single shot here just to let some people know it's happening. I find this forum a lot nicer than newcelica. I haven't really told many people other than my close friends that I'm doing this swap and I'm not working at a fast enough pace to "please" people on newcelica. It's like if you're not done in a day or so, it's "I knew this was never going to be finished" blah!

I'm happy nobody has thought of the swap because I personally think it's the best motor for this chassis. It's lighter than a 2jz, it's got very good aftermarket support and it fits under the stock hood if you mount it properly lol. Just needs a completely custom subframe which I'm trying to figure out now.

You're making people jealous! Great stuff right here man.
Btw, does a VQ35 mean a full RWD is coming along with it?!
Also, your Gt-Four looks identical to mine from the outside smile.gif ...for now hehe

Lol, I'm not trying to, just lucky to have had the opportunities to own a few cars I really like smile.gif

Yes, full RWD is coming. I also have a full 350z rear aluminium subframe to go in as well biggrin.gif

I'm planning a few things for it, but it's going to stay mainly stock looking bodywise, I just really like how it looks as is. Might do a few things under the hood eventually though wink.gif

im sure you could just use the ST205 rear end and have a custom driveshaft fitted from the trans.

I was thinking to use the st205 rear, but this rear end is made for this motor/trans, had good aftermarket support and I was planning to swap 350z brembo calipers all around, so it makes for a bolt on, big brake solution.

never would have thought someone was crazy enough to even have the idea of putting a vq35 in a celi, and a 7th gen... come on what were you smoking when you imagined this, let alone actually do it. definitely think you should keep posting on it. think the two go together quite nicely, but then again it is a french motor rolleyes.gif

Lol, I may have been high on paint fumes, but once I bought the motor and started cutting for the trans tunnel, I knew it had to be done lol.

I'll definitely keep everyone updated on here. Once I get back on it steadily, I'll start a thread in the projects section and let everyone know what's happening. Didn't think people would be that interested in it to be honest.

It may be a french motor, but it's a pretty good one tongue.gif

the only thing i like about them is the sound, and they do have alot of aftermarket support for both boost and n/a which i like alot. if youve watched top gear they described that motor as gutless. but the whole idea of putting in a v6 from a 3200lb(may be more) car into a 2700lb celica AND rwd is just asking for attention imo.

Considering it will more than likely end up as a track car, which is what I really wanted out of the project, I don't see any attention as a problem. Not many insurance companies want to insure something like this and if they do it's going to have limited use anyways. Also the fact I don't treat the road as a race track helps with unwanted attention.

Car is still on my policy, just off the road as fire/theft. I dont' even need to re-inspect the car, just have to get emissions test done when it's finished to get my plates. I'd rather just keep it as a track car anyways.

As for just insuring a 7th gen, last thing I want is to put all this effort into it and then something happens and they compensate me for a stock 7th gen. Forget that.

nice, we are beginning to see more folks here that have the 6th gen and 7th gen celicas, nice projects.
