Long-term celica storage - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #86066 5 posts Started by gts4
My celica is sitting in my driveway, and will be in the garage for the winter. What could happen if it sits for too long? What can I do to mitigate the problems that come from this? Is there a way to properly store the car for long periods of time? I plan on storing it for a month to eight months. Thanks.

keep an eye on the tires, make sure they dont go flat for sitting. I would run the car for about 10 minutes every month to keep seals fresh and the battery charged up

Seeing as how Im from Texas, I cant give you alot of winter specific information. But as for storing your vehicle-

If possible, start and run the engine once a month until it reaches operating temperature, and leave the AC running full blast the whole time. If this isnt an option then purchase a can of engine fogger, it will coat the inside of your engine and protect it from atmospheric changes. Make sure to add Sta-Bil to the fuel, or you can park the car on a near empty tank and add fresh fuel at the end of the storage period.
Of course a wash and hand wax before storage will be optimal, and a car cover over it during storage.

The fogger, sta-bil and carcover(its only $30) are all available at the local autoparts store.

Oh if you decide to not use the fogger you can just remove the spark plugs and spray WD40 into the cylinders then reinsert the sparkplugs. If you let the engine sit for 8 months without any treatment or being turned over regularly then what happens is the cylinderwalls develop rust, because when the ambient temperature rises and cools off moisture will form.
